I have to disagree.
Shotguns have plenty of range for fast-acquisition optics.
We've been seeing quite a few carbines and subguns with collimator type optics, some of which are used at very close ranges. If they can get away with it on a carbine, someone can definately get away with it...

Great review and video.
I second your notion that the student who shot el-prez did a fine job. He made clean hits and his reload was smooth. Afterall, he was a student and was more than likely there to learn. I wasn't trying to push myself during classes.
On the otherhand...

Although I do not own a complete Stag/CMT rifle, they do make good stuff.
I've used their LPKs and upper receivers (NOT complete upper assemblies) for some of my builds. Fit and finish are great and I feel that they're on par with Bushmaster if not better.
