I had both at one time. I got rid of the 870 and went hunting with the 500. Never shot anything with it but I still have it. It is a 20", and is great for home defense and is a keeper.
The lack of reloading in scenes of hundreds of shots fired used to irk me in action movies. Now I just look at reloading the same as using the bathroom. You know that they have to do it, they just never show it.

On the 556's predecessor, the Sig-550, you slide a bayonet lug in and secure it with a pin through the hole. I haven't heard of a specific bayonet for the 556. Maybe the 550 bayonet is compatible with the 556.
