I had both at one time. I got rid of the 870 and went hunting with the 500. Never shot anything with it but I still have it. It is a 20", and is great for home defense and is a keeper.

On the 556's predecessor, the Sig-550, you slide a bayonet lug in and secure it with a pin through the hole. I haven't heard of a specific bayonet for the 556. Maybe the 550 bayonet is compatible with the 556.

The original is an 1887 Winchester Lever Action. Norinco of China seems to be the only co. still making these. I think it is a good looking 12 gauge.
