    Springfield Armory XDS-9

I like the Shield, but the itty bitty thumb safety leaves a lot to be desired. If it came without the safety I could have considered it. That said, I'm really liking the XDs 9mm so far.

Will be picking up my XDs 9mm tomorrow.

Picked mine up on Monday. I've put almost 200rds through it so far, great shooter. I'm hoping the trigger breaks in a little more though, is a bit heavier than the 45 models I've shot (but they were extensively broken in).

    Limited holster options

Personally, I've not found that I'm fast enough really gain anything from a race holster. I used a Comp-Tac belt holster when I shot limited, still use the same holster now that I shoot IDPA/Production.

    Shell carrier preference

Tons of 3-gun in Eastern NC. Tarheel 3-gun, Cross Creek, Ant hill, ZSA, etc. I'd look at the California Competition works shell caddies, or if you are handy, you can make your own out of a piece of kydex. The above linked site also has a shooting sports calendar for events in NC if interested.

Tula .45 smells like hot dogs and mustard

Shot some Tula .223 in a match Monday night. The range officer made the comment that it smelled like a cheeseburger. I didn't notice it.

    Melted my Glock 22

I like it. I REALLY wish the G19/23/32 had the slides like the G26/27/33, instead of the squared off slide.

Free place to shoot in NC, Raleigh or nearby?

Its not free, but again, it isnt expensive either. They charge by the lane, so for $10/hr you and your wife could both shoot. Very nice range, run well. Pretty close to Cary as well. There are NO free, outdoor shooting ranges anywhere near the triangle. If you fine one, let me know. If you...

VIDEO: guy shoots himself in leg with 1911 drawing from serpa holster

I think the biggest lesson to be learned from this incident is to have a first aid kit with you. He mentioned in the video that he was able to patch himself up before the EMTs arrived. We should all have a kit, capable of treating a GSW in our range bags, and the knowledge to use it.

Favorite Gun Shops Around the U.S.

Fuquay Gun and Gold in Fuquay Varina, NC. To the OP, Jays sporting goods in Clare, MI is a fantastic place. I grew up not far from there...

    Bullet Trap

Couldnt you build a sand backstop, then just sift the lead out of the sand?

    Glock 26 Gen 4 issues?

Unlike the larger Glocks, the only difference on the Glock 26/27 Gen4 pistols is the texture on the lower, the backstraps, and the mag release. The G26 has always had the dual recoil springs, so they are not having the issues that the larger pistols are having. I just bought a Gen4 G26 about...

    Serpico's Pistols

Last I knew, Mr. Serpico had emigrated the US, and was living somewhere in Europe. Sweden? Switzerland? Probably not somewhere CCW friendly anyways...

Kel Tec PF9 or S&W Snubby

Have both. I carry the 642 every day, and I dont remember the last time I carried the PF-9. My PF-9 has been reliable, however it just feels like a cheap piece of junk, and that isnt very confidence inspiring. I carry the 642.

Is it wrong to buy a commemorative model gun...

Took my first buck with a Wells Fargo commemorative Winchester '94 .30-30. Love that rifle.

Best Gun Shop in the NC Triangle

Fuquay Gun and Gold is my gunshop. I have no reason to shop anywhere else. I just wish Clay would open a Raleigh location.
