I settled on the P9. The PM9 was a little too big for me to use as a pocket gun, therefore I figured I might as well go with the gun that I can get all of my fingers on. Jodie Foster recommends the K9.

Are you pulling the slide stop all the way to its full unlock (withdrawn) position? I've never had this gun so I can't be a lot of help. Some guns have safety systems that require them to be completely right-side-up in order to take the slide off. Make sure you're not holding it upside down...
