    Mosin Nagant 91/38

Theory, thanks for the advice. When I first got it, it still had a lot of Cosmoline in it. I took it completely apart, cleaned it all out, oiled it well, and put it back together.

Mosin Nagant 91/38: what's it worth?

Thanks to all for the replies. It's reassuring to learn that my difficulty in determining its value is shared by folks more knowledgeable about these than I am. In case it isn't obvious, I'm looking to sell this rifle. I've got too many old rifles laying around, and this one is a good place...

    Mosin Nagant 91/38

Cosmoline, thank you for the information. I've had fun researching it and learning more about Mosin Nagants in general. Finding out that I came out ahead on trading a $110 scope for it is just a bonus. If anyone else has additional information about this 91/38 or thoughts on its value, please...

    Mosin Nagant 91/38

(Also posted in the Rifle section, but thought I might reach a different audience here.) I recently traded a scope for a Mosin Nagant. Knowing next to nothing about them (old Mausers are more my thing), I decided to figure out which model it is. Little did I know that, considering all the...

Mosin Nagant 91/38: what's it worth?

I recently traded a scope for a Mosin Nagant. Knowing next to nothing about them (old Mausers are more my thing), I decided to figure out which model it is. Little did I know that, considering all the countries of manufacture, years of production, arsenals, stock variations, barrel lengths...

Moose458, thanks for the recipe. Sounds great!

Swedish Mauser + Richards Microfit laminate stock project

I'm a long way from a great shot left-handed, but I can make do with it. You're correct that the Swedish Mauser has become one of my favorites. No kick, simple but elegant design, and the fact that I was so involved in its creation combine to make me reach for it first. I save the...

Swedish Mauser + Richards Microfit laminate stock project

Moose458, nice looking rifle! You're right, we had about the same idea. It looks like you even did the same Dremel tool cut on the bolt to provide scope clearance. Is that stock their straight grip (I think that's what I remember it being called) thumbhole stock? I went with the dual grip...

Swedish Mauser + Richards Microfit laminate stock project

In case anyone is interested, this gun and a handloaded cartridge flattened a deer at 125 yards today. The load is 42.1 grains of H4350 pushing a 140 grain Remington PSP. It was especially cool hunting with a gun that I put so much work into and with ammunition that I (and my seven year old...

Richards Laminate Stock and Glossy Finish with Tru Oil (LONG)

LOL Good find. Apparently H&K's ad folks who put this brochure together don't know which way is up. No, these stocks don't have checkering. It's a compromise. I've yet to find a situation where I HAD to have checkering, though.

What clever little things have you "invented or discovered" that you can share?

El Cheapo electric case trimmer This has probably been done before, especially considering how simple it was. I needed/wanted a powered case trimmer, but wasn't thrilled that they ranged from $100 to $300, and probably more. These aren't anything more elaborate than an electric motor on a base...

    AR build

Technically, the buttstock, buffer, and buffer tube is part of a completed lower receiver. The kit in your link is everything BUT those parts to build a complete lower receiver. And assume nothing about an upper receiver. They are sold both with and without the bolt assembly. Make sure you...

Swedish Mauser + Richards Microfit laminate stock project

Z-Michigan, thanks for the compliments. And we agree that, compared to the directions that come with Tru-Oil, lycanthrope's method is a lot of work. On a good weekend day, I could get two coats on it. Tru-Oil has drying agents that pure tung oil doesn't have, so it cut out the days of drying...

Swedish Mauser + Richards Microfit laminate stock project

Smokey Joe, I could have been looking at something wrong on Boyd's website, but I didn't find one of their laminated stocks for a small-ring Mauser. If I'm not mistaken, your Yugo is a large-ring. If they did make one, though, a Boyd's stock couldn't have been much rougher or required more...

Swedish Mauser + Richards Microfit laminate stock project

Greyling I was told that their Mauser stocks are purposefully somewhere less than the 95% advertised because of the huge variability in dimensions of individual Mausers. This lets the customer open up the stock for a just-right fit. It was tons of work, but I liked the end result. Supposedly...
