Most of the pards I know at the cowboy shoots that are using the 1873 in 357mag just down load the rounds, so they are basicly shooting 38's in a 357 cartridge Hope this helps. You might check out the SASSNET.com
Got My M44 today, nice looking rifle a very nice stock. Am going to leave it like it is. My M38 now has a monte carlo stock and am in the process of scouterizing it. Just ordered new bolt handle from Brownells. Anyone had experience in welding on a new bolt handle I have both gas and wire welder.
Just received and installed a Monte Carlo stock from J & G sales. Makes the rifle look new and will make a good brush gun for hunting.

take a 8MM round with you and when looking at the rifle put the bullet in the bore if it goes all the way to the brass the bore is shot, if not it is good to buy.
