    Well...then there's those movies that have guns but people don't know how to use them. Like a seeming number of movies where a woman (sexist Hollywood???) is supposed to shoot back at the bad guys but drops it (usually out the car window). Or that guy hiding in the closet in Pulp Fiction.

    Since my 9mm/45 thread went so well :P, I wanted to ask what you all knowledgeable people would recommend for self-defensive rounds in 9mm and .45 ACP (brands, type, weight, overpressure or not, etc.)? Please provide ball-park prices too. Thanks!

    .44 Mag ever fended off a bear?

    I've been told many times that the required minimum caliber for gov't and other personnel in Alaska is .44 mag. Then a couple weeks ago a gun shop salesman told me that he'd never heard of somebody carrying only a .44 successfully defending themself against a bear. Ever heard of such?

    Rifles for Dummies?

    First of all, is there such a book? I guess the ... for Dummies series publishers are too PC/anti-gun to have written such a book (I've looked). I know next to nothing about rifles. Can you good people fill me in on rifle types, (recommended) calibers, etc.? Thankyouverymuch!

    Funny, here in Colorado many sheriff's depts add CCW holders to the same database as criminals, which LEO's can check (but aren't supposed to) during stops.

    Say somebody subscribes to the "better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6" philosophy, chooses to carry a firearm into the back country of any number of National Parks which prohibit (non-disassembled) firearms, then encounters a situation (bear, mtn. lion, psycho, ...) in which they're forced...
