Which of these subcompacts would you get?

Mine isn't on your list. It's true it's no longer being made and you have to look hard to find one for sale, but i carry a FN HP-DA/DAO Compact (I have both). 9mm, 10 shots, all steel and made by FN Herstal- what's not to like? Best, Bill in Cleveland

    Question on Hi-Power's

Well, I guess we got it straightened out about FN and Browning. One thing I could throw in is that the Browning BDM was the only pistol manufactured by Browning in the US until the present newer polymer guns, some of which which I think Browning is making here. Some of you know more about them...

help understanding what I own here? Browning Hi-power,Ring hammer,Thumb print, pics.

So why'd you block out the serial number- hot gun? It might help some of us otherwise. Mine has serial #42095 and it should be from the same time period- internal extractor, thumbprint, ring hammer of course, and in excellent condition (NRA rated)- but serial numbers would start over for...

Finally picked up the Browning 1911-22

I think I used Brownell's in Canada when I needed a replacement mag for my FN 1910- you can Google them. First time they sent me a mag for a different gun- I heard this is common with them- but I returned it and they sent me the right one. My second thought is you could try SoCalGun- they...

    where's the Hi-Power thread?

I just found an old 2007-2009 thread from this forum on the internet about Hi-Powers, and at the end it said if the reader enjoyed it, join THR forum for the full version. Well, where is it- or do we have to start another one? Okay, if so, I got my first, a like new 2004 Practical 9mm...

ccw, tiny autos versus snubnose revolvers?

JohnHenry, that's too bad about your dad getting ripped off. I have a really nice nickel plated Colt DS second series and decided to keep it for home protection rather than risk it being stolen in a car. Also have a S & W model 64 snubbie which is stainless and a little bigger and heavier...

Browning Hi power serial number HELP

You guys think you have problems- I have a FN Hi-Power with serial # 42095. I think it's from the 1950s but can't find anything out about it as I'm told that large contracts in that era repeated serial numbers- what a way to run a railroad. It has to be from Europe as the US imported Brownings...

ccw, tiny autos versus snubnose revolvers?

Interesting thread. Here's my take on concealed carry. I have a S&W Lady Smith stainless .38 (model 36 or 60- I'm not really sure). I bought it used because I liked its looks and am not put off by the fact it says "Lady Smith" on one side- I know I'm a man. It's exactly the same gun as the old...

    How many of one make?

Well, lessee- 3 Smiths, all snubby .38s: Military & Police (pre-Model 10) Model 64 (same thing in stainless) Lady Smith stainless 9 FN/Brownings: Model 1910 7.65 ca. 1940, Jap war trophy, in the family since 1945 Model 1922 .380, ca. 1940, former Dutch military or police 1950s Hi-Power...

Thinking Of Getting A Hi Power

I have a Hi-Power Practical with the ring trigger. It's a well built good shooting gun and hammer bite isn't an issue with a ring trigger. The Mark III Hi-Powers (which the Practical is) have a cast steel frame and are very strong. I don't think you can go wrong. I also have some FN HP-DAs...

    First handgun. BHP

Another interesting thing is it has a ring hammer. According to Vanderlinden the spur hammer was standard from 1972 except for the Practical and Capitan. It must have been replaced. You're lucky- I prefer it to the spur. Best regards, Bill in Cleveland

    Which would you choose???????

You could try a FN HP-DA. It's not a Hi-Power but FN Herstal made them. I have two and consider them very well made quality guns, a pleasure to shoot. The only problem is that they take the same 15 round mags as the Browning BDM or special 10 round mags; regular Hi-Power mags won't fit. I...

    Most Reliable Auto Loader

Browning Hi-Power Practical. I haven't fired them as much but my FN HP-DAs are stone reliable also. Best regards, Bill in Cleveland

    Anybody recognize this gun?

The gold one is definitely a Hi-Power- it was so announced on the web. Don't know what the hell the other abomination is. Best regards, Bill in Cleveland

    Topping off a magazine.

For what it's worth, I read somewhere that British troops were fined if their magazines in Hi-Powers were fully loaded. There was a belief that one round short of full made for greater reliability. So that's what I do- heck, I have one extra in the tube anyway. Best regards, Bill in Cleveland
