How scarce are the k98k rifles?

Finding Nazi issue K98K's can be hard and yours is one of those. It is a solid walnut stock which is nice and also kind of rare. You need a sling. That iron ring in the stock is there to field strip the bolt. It is hard to do without that ring. It will shoot good. You can replace the...

Your favorite milsurp rifle to shoot?

Those Swedes are wonderful shooting rifles. They have a great sight picture. Light kickers, fast bullets and strong actions. What more can one want? I've got the long one made in 1905 and the MK38 made in WWII. The older one shoots best.

Your favorite milsurp rifle to shoot?

I own many milsurp rifles that I bought back when they were cheap. So I've owned them for over 40 years. My favorite to shoot are a 1911 Schmidt Rubin and a wonderful old beat up Mauser GEW98. The worst shooter, by far, is my SMLE Jungle Carbine. When I shoot that little rifle people...

Have $800 for rifle. Going nuts.

Don't even hesitate. Buy a pre-64 model 70 and enjoy. A .308 would be fine, but so are many other rounds. Mine is a .270 and it is a great rifle. I usually do not scope my rifles since I hunt in the brush. If you purchase a new rifle it will work fine, but it will just get older. If...

    Pawn shop Mannlicher Schoenaur

My Mannlicher Schoenuer has never been tapped. No scope ever. But it is pretty beat up, as if it has been heavily hunted and was tossed into the jeep. It is a single trigger, but while the two triggers look neat, you really don't need them. The single trigger works well. When buying old...

    .22 mag

The 22 mag in a rifle is a pretty good round and folks probably don't sell them. They shoot much harder than a normal .22. From a pistol too. 22 mags don't have a rep for being extremely accurate, but some might be. I just don't think people let go of them. Buy one of those Savage 92's...

Explain recoil to me in terms anyone could understand

For any given round, the heavier the gun, rifle, shotgun or pistol the lighter the recoil. While one's reaction to recoil is a personal thing, generally any pistol over .38 special will kick hard enough to notice. Any modern rifle in something around 30/30 caliber or larger will kick too...

Weatherby rifle--is it really worth $1600?

I had a mk 5, 7mm wby mag once. Everytime I shot it I ended up with blood in my eyes, still have the scar. It adds. Beautiful rifle, had that old wby scope too. In the 60's/70's they cost $500 +, which was very expensive then. I'd never pay that kind of cash for a plastic model, but for...

Tell me about my new Ruger Number 1

Harmonics? I suggest an old Manhatten Transfer album. Great harmonics. Am I missing something?

    SKS help

The book We Were Soldiers Once and Young is about the fray at Peiku. Makes me wonder if I should donate the old beat up SKS to the museum at Fort Benning. I used to visit that great infantry museum when I was stationed there. They had a chunk of Hitler's desk, Grant's liquor chest and...

Gun I don't shoot... Haunting me

Beware of returning guns. One day I strolled into the local pawn shop and saw a nickle SAA in .38 special. It was a second model made in 1902. Cost was $835. Looked new. I bought it. I couldn't figure the caliber. Did they make a .38 Special in 1902? I looked in my Colt books and...

    Shortest barrel for a 30-06?

I've got a 30-06 1952 carbine Mannlicher Schoneur that I think has a 19 inch tube. I'd measure it now, but it's deep in a safe. It barks, but not too bad. Course I'm deaf as a post. I use it as a brush gun. It's very light and has a wonderfully smooth action. It's been beaten to death. I...

    257 roberts question

It'll work okay. Don't fret. The .257 Rbts was the cat's meow when it came out before WWII. They are fine varmit rifles and great deer rifles too. You can load a 105 grain bullet, an 87 or a 75. The Nosler Partition makes it an elk rifle. They are also sweet shooters. Those 722's are...

    SKS help

Mine is a bring back. I bought it before the imports came in from a used gunshop. There was no ammo anyplace. It's got that knife bayonet. It is in pretty rotten shape. It was well used and abused. It came from Pleku and says so on the import statement issued by the GI's. It wobbles and...

    M/34 Swedish Mauser help

My 96 is marked 1905. It is also threaded at the muzzle, but with that little blued steel cap it looks okay. It shoot very nicely. These Swedes have fine two stage triggers. When you get to where the sear is about to break, it takes very little pressure and it breaks cleanly. Very nice...
