Here in the mid-west law enforcement trade ins have made the 40 cal an attractive deal.
I had no interest in them 'til I saw a Glock 40 in the used section of my little gun store for $279 with an extra mag.
So now I'm a owner of a high cap Glock and at my house, it's far from a dead caliber!
I bought a makarov because I ended up with a thousand rounds of 9 X 18 ammo in a bulk deal.
Best $200 pistol I've ever had!
I'm sure there are better pistols and I have some, but this little import really grew on me because it's simple and ALWAYS functions flawlessly.
"Check with a feeler gauge. Should be .004" minimum gap between barrel & cylinder. "
I'll have the headspace checked, that has been mentioned when I've shown in to those more knowledgeable that me.
Also There looks like a burr in the face of the recoil shield. At the edge of the clearence...
I'm having a problem with my Mod 34.
After firing 6 -12 rounds the cylinder binds up to where it doesn't rotate or open easily.
I did a search about cylinders binding and I'll tell you what I've ruled out.
1. It's not dirty. I've took the cylinder out, took it apart & soaked it, brushed...
Ammo is more plentiful here in the mid-west but it's a third more expensive than before the shortage.
22 cal can be had, but at $7.50 for 50 rounds I don't shoot near as much.
I hope to see the shelves stocked as high as the OPs pic at all the Wal-Marts soon!:)
The Standard Catalog of S&W 3rd Ed. says the "R 78xxx" serial numbered guns were mfg. from 1970 -'73.
Aprox. value in above average condition would be around $450 IMHO.
