Ranges and banning steel cased ammo

Most places that are concerned with steel cases are using a magnet to check for steel core bullets, and just exclude anything that the magnet is attracted to. The signs are to minimize complaints, IMO

Dumb question, why do I want a faster bullet?

Most importantly, don't get caught up in small numbers; focus on the bigger picture. Jeff Cooper had a phrase "preoccupation with inconsequential increments". It's best avoided, yet that's harder to do than you might think. Read a lot, learn what things affect results, and remember that most...

Looking for advice on a new rifle

How much larger than deer? Will it get angry and kill you? Your 7-08 is a great cartridge; the next step up, IMO, is the .338 WM, and up from there. If the 7-08 won't do it, a few grains more bullet weight, 300 fps more velocity, and/or .02" bullet diameter isn't going to make a significant...

Help me pick a tactical rifle/optics

IMO, get the AK and skip the optics. Put optics on your next "tactical rifle". An AK is plenty "tactical" with iron sights.

What is your most fun rifle?

    Stevens Crackshot, a falling-block single-shot .22 that's a copy of the Favorite. Cheap, accurate, and a rate-of-fire in rounds-per-day that probably can't be matched, without a magazine-reloading crew :)

380ACP - Do you use FMJ or JHP

If they don't "expand much or go very deeply", where's the "stopping power" coming from? George

Kimber .22 1911 pistol..... any advice?

Conversion kits don't require modification, just field stripping. The Kimber, at $600 or so, is twice as expensive as the Ruger, and roughly the same as a S&W 41, which is a FAR better pistol than the Kimber. Personally, I'd get either a Ruger 22/45 w/5 1/2" bull barrel, a Marvel .22...

    M1 carbine.. what if?

nutria A nutria is a muskrat-like rodent; a 15-25 pound rat thing. Sounds like an excellent target! George

I'm not sure if I I was out of line ...What do you think?

And of course, it's always the customer's responsibility to be nice to the people he'd like to give money to, and to do all of the research necessary to make it possible. I agree with the other posters that you'd likely have better luck going out of your way to be polite, I agree...

    Sell Me on the HK91

Not until you buy a bolt action .22LR (preferably with a wooden stock)! :D Once you've learned to shoot a rifle, then maybe you should consider a black plastic tactical wonder. And best of all, you can probably buy the .22 now, so by the time you've moved, you'll be able to hit something with...

What kind of rifle is this?

M21 is a modified M14; it's not one of those. As others have stated, it's either an M40 variant (if they're US Marines) or an M24 variant (if they're US Army). George

    Building an M16A4gery

Well, first of all, you need to move. Until then, you can't get an M16Anything, IIRC. :D George

    1911 Noob Questions

Detritus said almost exactly what I was going to say, but he said it first.:) The only thing I'd add is that in addition to Colt and Kimber (I'm unhappy with Kimber's current products, though it's more for personal reasons than an indictment of their quality), I'd suggest you look at...

    Tactical Night Skul--Lessons Learned

M1911- That was the question, and you haven't told us. That's fine, as it's clearly not important, and I'd hate for you to think that I'm trying to get you to compromise your integrity. I'm sorry that I upset you; I thought it was odd that you couldn't answer, so I asked why. I don't...
