I was wondering the same thing. I need a scope for my backup rifle in .270. A new Bass Pro just opened in my area. They had their redhead epic scopes on sale. They were out of them, so I picked up a rain check. I really want to know what others have experienced.

+1 on dove hunting - you should be able to find very reasonable day leases. +1 on hog hunting - very cost beneficial and good eating.

From what I'm seeing in the 3 hour radius of DFW, you are looking at $1k - $5k per acre. I would like to stay around $1k per acre. I think anything you buy in that range is a good investment.
