    .308 Battle Rifle Poll

Z, Larry adores the FAL. No doubt. He hates the G3's ergos. He says that the G3 doesn't start popping up on the top of his list until you are talking about doomsday conditions (which is what inspired my atomic Eastern Front reference). Cocking effort. think your gun was out of spec. The worst...

    .308 Battle Rifle Poll

Z, I agree, Larry likes the FAL. But he acknowledges that the G3 is the most robust--which is what you took issue with. As far as "greater than he-man" cocking effort. It is not the case on the Hk91, Springfield SAR-3,8 or any PTR I have shot or handled. Scoping the M1A is most certainly not...

    .308 Battle Rifle Poll

Z, I guess we will have to agree to disagree about the G3 being the most durable. However, I am pleased to note that no less an expert than Larry Vickers thinks the G3 is the most rugged of the above choices.

    .308 Battle Rifle Poll

HK91. 1. This rifle was designed by engineers who were building on the experience of the Eastern Front of WWII. In other words, this rifle is bomb proof (considering the context, maybe even atomic bombproof). Battle rifles do not get any more durable. 2. Parts are dirt-cheap right now...

    New Marlin Guide Gun!

Hey guys, I just heard that Stratus passed away a few weeks back. His name was John Pierson and he was a really neat guy. Smart as hell, could play the guitar like the Devil himself, and was pretty much good at everything he tried. Rest in peace Johnny.

Well, cutting the barrel probably shaved off 50fps or so. I load my own ammo so I just load a little hotter. Most commercial 45/70 loads are absurdly under-powered anyway.

    New Marlin Guide Gun!

These guns are some of the easiest, and most rewarding guns to modify. And the GG package gives you the ability to chose from relaitvly modest Remington trapdoor loads to 500 grain solids capable of taking Rancors. I am THIS close to picking up another blued one and making the following mods...

    New Marlin Guide Gun!

Stratus I have a new cheap mod. Mask of your front sight so only the white band is visible. Paint the band with luminecent paint. I did this with mine and it glows like a mother for about an hour after sundown. For late night you could always charge it with a flashlight.

    New Marlin Guide Gun!

There is a blued guide gun at the shop down the road I keep looking at. I keep thinking how sexy it would be to cut it down to 14 inches (or about flush with the factory tube). Now that would be a fire breather!

Steyr Scout or Sprinfield M1A Scout Squad

I have owned both, and sold both. I only miss the Steyr. The Steyr was basically perfect out of the box. My Springfield's extractor went out early, so I had to find a real one. Trying to put a scope on the Springfield was a nightmare because it turns out Springfield doesn't bother to make their...

    New Marlin Guide Gun!

Salvo, I know I have told you before but I LOVE that rifle. That was my number one inspiration. My dream has been to make my rifle a hybrid of yours and my old Steyr Scout. Next, old "Et in Arcadia Ego," or "Arcadia" for short, is going back in for some more mods. I am going to get a...

    New Marlin Guide Gun!

1858, Obviously, I agree with you. You are going to be faster and have greater range with an appropriate optical sighting device than irons. Now, you can go too far and get a 12x fixed which is not going to be handy for what these rifles excel at: medium-short range shooting. On the other...

    New Marlin Guide Gun!

Stratus, Congrats on the GG. A fantastic rifle. As you know, I have one and it is my favorite rifle. It is also a very accurate rifle. The beauty of .45 rounds is the diameter of the bullet is so large it makes it easier to print one hole groups! :) If I were you, I would focus on the...
