If you encountered someone Open Carrying...

Just the appearance of a waffle house makes me gag, sooo, never eaten there. Oh, about OC...er, nothin'. File the info for situational awareness and enjoy my meal, just like I'd expect folks to do when I'm using the VA tuck at the local Mexican restaurant. The most I usually get is a quick...

    Car Trouble Last Night

In your situation, stepping outside was IMO not a wrong thing to do. Having the gun out and displayed was an effective deterrent and was definately what made them rethink the situation. Offering to call a wrecker and then the police for them was a nice touch... Well done.

Did this guy want to rob me or am I just paranoid?

I had a student stop by one evening trying to sell magazine subscriptions for a chance to win a trip to Europe. When she got pushy I asked if she had any of my favorite aviation magazines for sale (ones that are membership only, :D) and she had to say no. She became downright rude after that...

Had to draw my weapon last night...

Well played sir. I would hope that most CCW'ers would react similar to you in that situation. Whether the BG saw the weapon or not, you had it ready if needed and if he did see it, it's presence is certainly enough deterent for a petty thief (we hope). Good discussion on this. Helps game the...

DoD's Anti Terrorism Training Level I Certificate

This is a standard box to check for all deploying contractors, govt./DoD civilians. Usually an annual requirement. I've taken it several times myself. If anything, it increases situational awareness. Common sense stuff mostly, but is a good reminder. GP

    Walther PPS....any good?

I bought one in .40 a couple of months ago. A little over one hundred rounds downrange since then (would be more, but I can't bring it to Iraq with me :(). It's a comfortable gun to shoot, it conceals well and is very accurate. Haven't had any jams that weren't pilot error. I don't find it...

Thoughts on leaving loaded guns in the house and car when not occupied

I personally have no issues with leaving my gun in a safe inside my locked vehicle, or locking it in the glove box of my locked vehicle (if absolutely necessary). In my experience, thieves look for the easy target, hence usually grabbing stuff from an unlocked vehicle. Even then it's usually a...
