    Elk hunt bullet choice

I’ll just say that of the bonded polymer tipped bullets out there the Nosler Accubond has always been match bullet accurate and has incredible terminal performance on game. Super hard hitting and deep straight line penetration. I think they are one of the best hunting bullets made. Between elk...

    Elk hunt bullet choice

Are you sure you’re not confusing Interbonds with Interlocks? My experience with Interbonds has been that they are every bit as tough as Accubonds if not a bit tougher. I wouldn’t hesitate for a second taking an off angle shot with an Interbond.

    Elk hunt bullet choice

The problem with that is in the field you don’t get to choose the distance your shot presents itself at. I hear this argument all the time and IMO it’s completely invalid. On elk use a bullet that will give adequate controlled expansion at all ranges from up close to your self imposed range...

    Elk hunt bullet choice

Out of a 7 RM the only bullet listed that I’d shy away from on elk is the Game King. Great bullet but a bit soft at 7 RM velocities on elk.

Opinions on hunting rifle with possible bear encounter

I can say this without hesitation. I hunted bears with hounds in the Rockies of Northern New Mexico an average days was 10+ miles with multiple thousands of feet of elevation change in steep country. There probably aren’t 10% of the folks reading this right now that could cut it on a multiple...

Opinions on hunting rifle with possible bear encounter

Seeing a bear or hunting black bear? Seeing a black bear is a non event. Hunting a black bear I’d choose something in the 6 mm and up range.

Phil Shoemaker Shares Details About Brown Bear He Killed With 9mm Pistol

Kind of like when “Bawanabes” talk about Bell using a .275 Rigby to kill elephants. Yeah he did and he also knew exactly how to locate and hit the brain every single time. You don’t, nor will you ever kill enough elephants to become proficient at brain shots from any angle. I will say this...

357 magnum for bear? yalls thoughts on it?

Added to say on an average sized blackie I’d expect a hard cast or copper solid of the right shape to lengthwise penetrate and exit.

357 magnum for bear? yalls thoughts on it?

Mmmm .. I’m not saying it couldn’t but I’m also not agreeing that it could be counted on. That’s based on shooting length wise through some pretty big critters with calibers in the .45 + range using copper solids in the .300+ SD range. Sometimes they do sometimes they don’t. The owner of...

357 magnum for bear? yalls thoughts on it?

I would too, but the situation mentioned was a frontal shot. It takes some grunt to penetrate a big bear lengthwise with an exit.

357 magnum for bear? yalls thoughts on it?

I’m 56 and not sure a hound hunt in the Rockies wouldn’t kill me now either.

357 magnum for bear? yalls thoughts on it?

I’m out of pocket here because I’ve killed multiple black bears with a .357 as a guide and a hunter. So I’ve got actual field experience and bear skins on the wall. Strange for an internet conversation to actually have first hand experience with the subject being discussed I know. Also I only...

357 magnum for bear? yalls thoughts on it?

Nobody unless they are doing something really wrong. Phil Shoemaker had been a professional bear guide, hunting guide and fishing guide for 33 years in what probably one of the highest population densities of Brown Bear on the planet. He’s had ONE defensive shooting of a bear. These threads...
