What are the legalities of posting once fired brass overseas - eg from the US to Australia, personal use to personal use? Can they just be chucked in a padded envelope and put in the mail?
Well someone’s offered me a VGC steel 57SME for $65 so I’m going that route for the moment. If for some reason I’m not satisfied with it (unlikely, I like the 66 on my 1895) I can sell it on and save for a 48.
Thanks, yeah it’s got some good components... it’s not moving at lightning speed as I...
I don’t know for sure - but I do believe the 57 (and I assume the 48) do clear the charger hump. I think there’s not a lot of room between bolt handle and hump but the Lyman was designed to just sneak in. I’m happy to be corrected to though...
ah I see what you mean now, it’s not a bad idea. But...
ah ok, well that’s a bit much but I can believe it - people get worked up over insignificant things... yes I have considered Redfields but have put them at second (well third I guess) place for a few reasons. Firstly I can’t get my head around the model numbers and what will fit - Lymans are...
Sorry I shouldn’t have been clearer - when I said 57 I meant the old (pre ‘74?) steel versions. I try to avoid aluminium parts if I can... from what I gather they introduced the 57 as a budget version? But also resulted in a more compact/discrete sight. I actually prefer the hunter knobs on...
those are a couple of lovely rifles there RB, congrats. From everything I read the 48 is a rolls Royce - whether I need it is what I’m trying to figure out, seeing as I can’t really try before i buy. 57 is sensible, but I can be obsessive by nature and if I think I could have got better it will...
Thanks Todd, I’m sure you’re right about buying separate parts and trying to assemble a good one. I only thought of it as there’s a 3rd gen (so don’t need to notch the stock) base with slide lock at auction fairly cheap. Not only are complete sights very expensive (and so probably trying to find...
So I’ve been thinking about a receiver sight for my 7x57 build on an m98. I was always assuming I wanted a steel 57 SME but I’ve recently discovered 48Ms, which seem to be even more of a good thing! Problem is they’re hard to find and pricey... If I was I find say just a base, how realistic is...
Thanks Doc, yeah it’s a 22” barrel - the original featherweight (I think predating the Winchester model). They all got brakes (well ported barrels) now matter what caliber, the standards got a 24” and no brake. Maybe it was to do with watching the strike? Either way, this one has one...
So how...
Has anyone fired a BSA 222 with the factory muzzle brake (featherweight built in the 50s - is this called a Hunter or Royal)? Or even any 222/223 like rifle with a brake?
I’m looking at buying quite a nice original one and have always wanted an early CRF BSA. Wanting a 222 as my small...
well my other power is AS30N which is equivilent to red dot... But I assumed I wouldn't safely be able to get deer-killing velocities with it - at least compared to H4895. And I believe I can still go less with 4895 again
Thanks guys that's great. Will see what the recoil is like and if too much back off further. I'm using 175gr as that's what I have on hand - they're my soft-cast with a gas check. Nearest gun shop is 200km away and we're hunting today and I'm not prepared for a 5hr round trip to pick up a...
if you do any chance you could please run a load for me? I’m looking for a load of h4895 giving 2100-2200fps in a 30-06 with a 175gr bullet through a 24” barrel... many thanks!
Looking for a reduced load for my young cousin to take a deer with!
