    357 Magnum Hornady XTP

Since I shoot them out of a lever action as well I went with the XTP-FP #35780. It says right on the box 700-1500 FPS... Interestingly the Hornady #9 Manual I have lists the same bullet (#35780) as good for 1150-1850 FPS Things that make you go hmmmmmm??? Guess out of the revo I aim for...

    357 Magnum Hornady XTP

Just checking to see what you guys are getting for velocity in 158 XTP handloads since the Hornady book's velocities were done with an 8" barrel. It says 1200 FPS with and 8" barrel is max with 14.3 grains of 2400. With 13.5 grains of 2400 my 4" S&W 686 averages1175 FPS. Some went over the...

    Lot to Lot Brass Variations

So I recently received a boat load of 30-06 ammo and some empty brass from a buddy. He said it's stuff that didn't shoot well in his rifle. And wanted to know if I could use it to make some custom stuff for him. When I got home to sort through it, a bunch of it is mixed up in different boxes...

    300 savage and Reloader 17

the "?" in the name of the powder listed means you've modified the characteristics of the powder. Burning Rate Factor is different. Mine says 0.4700. Also Pro- or Degressivity on mine says .8053. Those are the only two things I see different.

    300 savage and Reloader 17

Yeah if I had a brand new bolt action I might attempt a slow work up. But I got an 87 year old lever action for cruising, not for hot rodding!

    300 savage and Reloader 17

Oh and 45.5 grains was just over 107% fill ratio

    300 savage and Reloader 17

The computer w/ QL on it is at home. The notes I've got here on my phone say that I wanted a max pressure of 51,000 PSI and it told me w/ a 24" barrel and 45.5 grains of RE17 I'd be at 2701fps and 51K psi. I figured I'd drop back to 42.5 grains and 2505 fps, and as mentioned that was off the...

    300 savage and Reloader 17

MeHavey, my QuickLoad data was different than yours for some reason. I had someone else run RE17 and 300 savage through QL who is about 10x more knowledgeable than me on the subject and his numbers were identical to mine. I tried 3 shots over my chronograph with 42.5 grains and got an average...

    300 savage and Reloader 17

Does anybody out there have info on using Reloader 17 w/ a 300 savage? I'll be using 165 partitions. QuickLoad tells me w/ my 24" barrel I'll run out of case capacity right before before I reach max pressure. Id like to get at least one piece of published info to compare w/ my QuickLoad info...

    Fuel-based hand warmers?

Ive got two of the Zippos and a John-e G.I. You won't find me in the woods without them. That G.I. model almost gets hot enough to cook with. My Zippo's will go about 12-18 hours when completely full, and do so at a more comfortable temp. I know plenty of people that smoke while in the...

    Trying to Match Factory Ammo

Thanks, I mentioned that I already do have a chronograph, and that I just haven't had a chance to shoot that specific factory load over it yet. I did steal the OAL of the factory rounds though and have been using that. Just trying to see where you guys think I'll likely find success a little...

    Trying to Match Factory Ammo

So Ive got a 25-06 that shoots factory loaded 115 Partitions from Federal into EXCELLENT groups. Federal's website says they're coming out at 3030fps, but I've not checked that with my chronograph. So I went and bought some of the 115 Partitions. QuickLoad tells me I can safely take them over...

    New Bear Rifle Ideas

After a day of posts and pondering I'd say the front runners are 325wsm and 338rcm. I really like the idea of having a smaller rifle with power somewhere between a 300wm and 338wm. My typical day bear hunting is hiking into AGC National Forest 30-45mins (some of it pretty rough terain) and...
