    Chuck ??

I remember a pair of chucks making a home in my grandpa's wood pile, as we were only visiting, we didn't have much of an armament, dad had taken one a few days before several yards off behind the barn with grandpa's .223 at just a couple of yards, so we laid in wait (maybe 5 feet from their...

    Chuck ??

Yeah, I picked the splodeyest flat bases first with accuracy and low velocity in mind 😉, it's been some years now but I do know that with an impact velocity around 2800 those lil spsx pills won't exit a fox, and generally, leave the prairie dogs in too many pieces to count at most average...

Small Game Hunting With Centerfire Cartridges

Sub 300s should be a great place to start, slow is going to be key here, in .223 I've done some small game and tons of varmint, and my rule of thumb is, if it's edible and impact velocity will be above 1900 fps, aim for the head/neck. I ran a 9mm white box hp out of a carbine YEARS ago... and I...

    Chuck ??

Try the hornady spsx or Speer 52 gr hp, if staying with sierra, try a blitzking or hp. Also the varmageddons, dogtowns, and varmint nightmare extremes would be worth a look for thin skinners. The 50gr spsxs and 40 gr vmaxs are my favorites in .223.

    CVA Scout

He said good accuracy, so I'd bet that his loads were underwhelming terminally below a certain velocity threshold. For someone who's already used to muzzleloader hunting, I'd say you already have a good idea of what to expect. I, like other folks, took a bit to adjust my mentality/expectations...

Fun Hand Cannon Day: 500S&W Magnum: 460S&W Magnum and Beautiful BFR

Not bad!!! I'm curious, d/a revolvers handle the recoil differently obviously because of grip angles etc, etc, how would you compare the bisley to the s&w since you got to back to back them with same cartridge and load?

    New (to me) Cartridge

We've used a small variety of combinations in a small variety of rifles so far, for the lightweight bullets we WERE using 4166, but now that that's out, general rule of thumb we play by is varmint weights up to and including the sierra flat based 85 gr run the imr4064, the I4350 and h4831 also...

    Let's talk 40gr & lighter loads in 223

I've been running benchmark for a good long while now, been eyeballing a few others, just haven't gotten around to pulling the trigger yet.

    .243 85grain load data origin

Might try loadbooks in .243 something like one of these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/395335121809?itmmeta=01HVVJ235HXECQJZBX86WKBW8A&hash=item5c0bcf3b91:g:QLQAAOSwKKhhjSFN

45-200 Lehigh Penetrator for hog hunting

So, several folks have not been thrilled with the screwdriver bullets, the wfn as Craig mentioned, or the barnes xpbs would probably serve you better.

    Wyoming Spring Bear

Are you hunting on a "wilderness area"? Last I knew the basic rule of thumb for a nonresident was hunting on public land=guide required by law.

rifle for new youth hunter, .357 mag, 44 mag or 243.

My oldest(16) saw a bench for the first time about 6 months ago, in a store, and decided it must be for lazy people 😆, I educated her on the uses of benches and while she accepted it, she retained a skeptical look until we left that part of the store and she found something that struck her interest.

What Bullet & Powder Would You Use

Mattsbullets.com 147 gr hp, or barnes 110, they both do what they're supposed at low velocities, I like bullseye but have been looking at slightly slower powders, accuracy has been great with bullseye, but I think I'd like just a bit more speed. The gold dots (even the 135 for "short barrel"...

Hornady ELD-X or Barnes LRX for long range Elk?

I'm not sure what about the "x" is false advertising, it was my understanding the x is for eXpansion, and the M is for match, I may have missed something though.... we treat the M like an amax(thinner more brittle jacket) and the x like a basic sst with a thicker jacket as far as terminal...
