third gen S&W auto's are the hidden gem of the handgun world. Instead of a new 910 I would go for a used 5906. Better sights, better finish, no MIM(if older), and a better price.

My old duty weapon was a P229. The finish was nothing more than paint on stainless slide. The black "finish" would come off if you looked at it directly. Otherwise it was a good gun it just looked like crap from the poor quality finish.

Breakfree CLP is a great rust preventer. I would get the slide hard chromed or some other wonder finish applied. A little thing called life gets in the way of daily or even weekly wipe downs of a EDC handgun. My EDC guns are tools. I have no desire to spend time every day wiping them...

It is hardly common to blacken stainless steel. It can be done but rarely ever is done. Needs pics of the gun to determine what is going on here.
