The good ol days of 1959...

I have a Klein's catalog from the late 1950s. I have spent many an hour pipe dream ordering firearms/ammunition with my 2019 salary. Lots of fun. And you don't end up spending a penny.

    30-30 quote

Don't forget the James Jordan buck in 1914 that was taken with a .25-20. The Jordan Buck measures 206 1/8 net typical points and locals estimated it weighed close to 400 pounds (must have eaten a lot of those deep fried Wisconsin cheese curds).

    Horrible ND Situation

Here's a url for a hunting-shooting incident. This guy will remember this every day for the rest of his life. Gadzooks, drinking beer and smoking marijuana then go hunting? http://www.startribune.com/dad-to-be-jailed-30-days-for-killing-son/27405589/

    Excellent Newspaper Article

Folks are always complaining that firearms enthusiasts don't get much coverage in the newspaper and when they do, it is usually negative. Yesterday's St. Paul Pioneer Press had a very nice article about a 14 year old Minnesota female who is a champion grade shooter. The printed article ran...

Not Much Stopping Power In This Case

Perhaps someone forgot to put powder in their cartridges, or someone had a little too much Tequila prior to this and their aim was poor, but in any case, the fellow survived, although badly disfigured. https://www.ripleys.com/weird-news/survived-execution/

    "Knockdown Power"

I have read a LOT about how to gauge "knockdown" power and the consensus is that it is so variable that it is difficult to come up with a single number. As one poster said, a well placed .22 bullet is more effective than a .50 BMG that misses. For years, writers (and DNRs in many states) told...

Vadnais Heights MN - Police Seize "Cache" Of Weapons

A 13 year old student at a Vadnais Heights MN school made a threat to a student regarding shooting up the school. The threatened student told his parents who called the school. The school investigated the situation and gave the 13 year old a two day suspension. His parents thought the matter...

What does it sound like to get shot at?

I guess it depends where you are shot. If the bullet goes through the middle of your forehead, I doubt you'd hear anything. Probably a bright flash of light, then darkness.

What's your favorite gun in your collection?

Favorite Firearm Probably my S&W Model 14-3 .38 Special. I know the .357 replaced it and also goes through car doors easily, but the .38 Special has taken down a lot of bad guys. The Model 14 I have has the target grips which feel very comfortable. It's very accurate, and I could shoot it...

    Favorite 'Odd' Caliber

I'll go with the much maligned 6.5x52mm Carcano. If I use the proper sized bullets, it shoots just fine. Reload with a bullet that's 0.005 or more undersized and it won't work as well. I enjoy the YouTube videos of shooters using the Carcano and ringing one square foot steel plates at 800 yards.

    Who actually wears eye protection?

I generally wear eye protection. After seeing a fellow end up with a ruptured case from an M-14 blowing brass particles back into his face, it makes sense. No, it doesn't happen very often, but I value my eyesight more than any other sense. Obviously, if a gun blows up and a chunk of heavy...

Need tips for owning land for shooting recreation

My wife & I ran into a farm default where the land was owned by the bank. Banks don't like to have land on the books, so they were eager to sell. They had the land listed at $32k so I called my attorney and asked him what should I offer for the 76 acres. He said be ridiculous and offer them...

What To Do If You Get Pulled Over

I realize that the Minnesota shooting thread is closed until more details are available, but I thought I'd post this "What to do" information from the Wisconsin CCW web site. The state has no specific law that states how to engage the officer, but they do have a recommended procedure...
