Free floating is a Savage standard. The looseness on the rifle is probably the action screws not being tight. The action is pillar bedded. If all you want is a deer rifle, the standard Savage is going to be hard to beat. I suggest you go ahead and buy from a gun store. Small gun shops...

FN is Fabrique Nationale of Herstal, Belgium. A very highly regarded gun maker. They have built some of the best Mausers, the FN FAL, and a few US military weapons.

For around 1 grand, you can get a Savage 12BVSS combo. It has the rifle and scope with some accessories. Look at www.savagearms.com for them. I think .223 or .22-250 would be a good choice.

The reason the Vanguard is so cheap is that they are not made by Weatherby. They are made by Howa of Japan. Howa makes good rifles. If I were wanting to buy a gun made by Howa, I'd buy a Howa not a Weatherby con.
