Can't speak to the Steyr. I own a USP FS and like it. But, my vote goes to the Walther without question. Second only to my P7. But, you said polymer. :scrutiny:

HK P7 family - Not the M10. Well you say rest of your life. I suppose an M10 would never wear out. :D

Glocks and Sigs are good. Consider the Walther P99. If you shop around, you can find them under $500
