New AR or M1A...help me decide

GreenTN, I have a M1A scout. I purchased it as my "one" rifle... you know, the one that could do it all, etc... the one I would go to if tshtf... the one I would wring out enough accuracy out of to show I knew what I was doing... The scout meets all of these requirements... Yet, I...

Thoughts wanted on lever action rifles using handgun ammo

My Winchester 94 trapper in 357 is my favorite long gun. I bought it to match my revolvers. It is extremely accurate out to 100 yards. Ballistics are similar to the 30/30, I have read... but I am not an expert on that. The 94 is a fun, accurate and quick shooter... Good luck

    hd lever guns

Have to agree that a lever gun can make a fine HD weapon. 357 or 44 magnum, no doubt about stopping power... My 94 trapper is my handiest long gun. I can put rounds on target just as fast with it as with any of my semi autos... you have to train to rack the lever as you reacquire your sight...

Non-EBRs/military rifles: what would you get?

357 lever to match the revolver... inexpensive, efective round out to 150 yards or so. With practice you can cycle the lever as fast as you get your sight picture back.. very effective. M1A or Garand is clearly a better battle rifle, but I wonder how they fit in your question...

    AR 15 - 20" or 16" barrel?

Great answers all around. We do not get the opportunity to shoot at rannges above 100 yards very often, so it sounds like it should not make a difference. Maybe, as stated above it will be just as important to find what "feels" right to him. Mostly it was just a curiosity matter. Gladly this...

    AR 15 - 20" or 16" barrel?

My son was asking if there is a significant difference in accuracy out of an AR-15 with a 20" barrel vs. a 16" barrel. I told him that I thought the 5.56 round was originally intended for the 20" barrel, but other than that I don't know what the difference might be or if that matters. Anyone...

Range Report (pics) Bushmaster xm15 @ 200 yards.

Congrats. I think that is some pretty good shooting with that base level ammo and iron sights. Keep it up. John

    The Ruger SR 556: Seriously?!?!

I pick mine up this coming Wednesday. $1509 from my LGS. Looking at the cost of a decent ARplus all the accessories this one comes with it seems like a good deal, plus I appreciate Ruger reliability. I know there have been a few setbacks on that end with the recalls of late. This rifle seems...

    Ruger AR15 available yet?

My LGS is taking orders. Ruger has allowed him to order 3, which sounds about right for his size operation. I was eager to purchase, but find myself debating after this weekends gunshow, as I see other brands of AR's coming downin price compared to a few months ago... I love Ruger reliability...

    .357 under-rated these days?

I favor the 357 over all other rounds that I have used. My gp100 and Winchester 94 Trapper are my #1 choice in most all situations. With practice, I can double tap, drawing from the hip, just as accurately and just as fast with my gp100 with full power loads as I can with my glock 17 with 9mm...

Anyone, Besides Me, Wanting to De-Tacticalize?

I am back and forth continuously on this one... I love my ruger gp100 357 and mt winchester 94 trapper in 357 and these would most likely be the two I grab first... "if" Of course I also like my M1A Scout, which is kinda halfway between traditional and tactical I suppose.... And... I...

    M1A or AR?

I marked scout squad... partly because that is what I did:rolleyes: and partly because if this is a "one gun" type of purchase, the M1A scout seems to cover an awful lot of bases. That being said... as some one who was "raised" in the world of firearms on an M16 (Semper Fi, baby)... it took...

Spetnaz vs Green beret (holster related)

I find it interesting that they try to reduce it all down to numbers by using their computer program. Without actually having the opponents fight to the death, I guess it is a reasonable way to handle things. I often cannot understand how or why they rate one weapon better than another. In...

    Marlin .45-70 or .223 bolt

Sounds like a nice find. The guide gun in 45-70 is definitely one of those "I want" rifles... not really needed in my neck of the woods but sure would like to have one.

My Major Brand FMJ .308 Ammo Test for the M1A (rem umc vs win usa vs fed am. eagle)

At this point I am buying any major brand I can get my hands on. In my scout I have had less than stellar results with the truly cheap stuff, like wolf and brown bear, poorer accuracy and for some reason, while I have NO issues with WWB or UMC feeding reliably, wolf likes to try to double feed...
