The biggest advantage, in my eyes, is the ability to quickly, reliably, and effortlessly draw from a pocket. I really believe the centennial (and bodyguard) J-frames were built with this purpose in my mind.

I carry the speer .38+p 135gr in my 642. My next choice (or my first choice in a non+p rated gun) would be buffalo bore's standard pressure, short barrel .38 round. http://www.buffalobore.com/ammunition/default.htm#standard38 158gr moving at 854fps from a 2" gun.. take a look.

I would get the 442. I particularly like the centennial style, and I think black is best for pocket carry (bottom of the grip is/can be exposed at just the right angle, even in relatively deep pockets).
