Have you considered trying to find a CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) 226? That's how I got mine, $250 cheaper than a new one. Most are LEO trade-ins that have had springs and worn parts, sometimes even barrels, replaced. And they're warrantied for a year.
Is your thumb coming in contact with the slide lock lever? This is a more common problem with Sigs, but I thought I'd throw it out as a suggestion. An easy way to tell is to shoot it left-handed. If the problem goes away, it was your firing hand thumb.
