308, plastic with steel base. steel base goes about 1/2" up plastic
lettering on headstamp very small and hard to read
7.62 x 51 then ten digits of letters and numbers
almost ruined lee decapper and brass hammer trying to get primer out. wouldn't budge...
shopping for a marlin in 45/70 and want to make sure it has the ballard type rifling for shooting cast bullets.
think some earlier rifles were mfg with non-ballard rifling and faster twist for jacketed bullets.

had same pistol that when dropped it discharged.
got rid of it but apparently there is a part behind the hammer that prevents hammer from striking the firing pin

blemished bullets
stopped in at sierra factory in sedalia, missouri several years ago and they had really cheap .22 55 grain in large barrel selling as seconds by the pound.
accuracy compared to bottle rockets
may have been that batch, but have stayed away from seconds ever since
on ebay...
opinion of savage
purchased model 10 in heavy barrel .223 several years ago for $399
then spent almost as much for a bushnell 6-24x40 elite 4200 scope
after little tinkering finding right load, son was consistently picking off prairie dogs at 600 yards (not estimated - we measured)

i was rifle range instructor at st. joseph, mo bsa camp for several years and worked with different age scouts.
eye domination wasn't usually established until age 11 to 12 (1st year scouts) and sometimes they hadn't firmly established hand coordination.
