That DoubleTap load is NICE!
I might just pick up a 10MM conversion barrel for my G21SF.
IMHO, 200GR. 40cal @ 1200fps is just about on par with a 230GR. 45cal @ 1100fps.
However, pushing a .40cal bullet up to 1300fps might just change my mind!
Did you see the 230gr 10MM 1120fps...
I went through this debate awhile back and selected two guns.
1) Lower 48 (minus parts of Wyoming & Idaho) Glock 21SF in .45ACP.
The Glock 21 with a steel Wolff guide rod & 24-pound Wolff recoil spring will handle the .45 Super load according to a number of folks on Glocktalk. I currently...
It looks like they only released a 4" Redhawk in .44mag. I haven't seen anything about other calibers.
Also, at 47oz, that seems a little heavy for a field sidearm.
Smith & Wesson's regular 4" 629 weights 41.5oz and the 4" 629 Mt. Gun weights 39.5oz. The Redhawk seems a little obese...
I handled the .44Mag Alaskan a couple weeks ago and it seemed much heavier than 41oz. I have a railed 1911 that weights 42oz empty and it seems much lighter than the .44Mag Alaskan.
Maybe it's just the difference in balance.
The Alaskan seemed more front-heavy, whereas the 1911 seems to...
Thanks a bunch for the info Socrates! The .480 Alaskan would probably be my first choice if I could find it, but I'm probably going to have to settle for the .454 Alaskan.
However, a big bonus for the .454 is its ability to ingest .45 Colt loads, which should make it a fun range gun and...
I had a quick question for those of you who have shot a 340 w/ .357 magnum loads.
I have a 340 and have put 4-5 cylinder's of .357 in rapid fire through it at the range. While it was a handful and a little painful, it wasn't THAT bad.
For those of you who have also shot other big bore...
I've done some more research on the .454 Casull & .480 Ruger and have tentatively ruled out the .454 Casull due to it's sharp recoil.
The .480 Ruger's recoil seems (from what I've read) to be slightly less sharp, and more of a really strong push. In addition, with a 2.5" barrel, the .480...
Do the Ruger Alaskan's have any type of internal locking mechanism? (specifically the .480 Ruger Alaskan, as I don't trust internal gun locks)
E.g. any type of internal lock like on the newer S&W's and the
Ruger Vaqueros?
.44 Magnum 4" S&W 329 (27oz)
.454 Casull 2.5" Ruger Alaskan (41oz)
.480 Ruger 2.5" Ruger Alaskan (41oz)
I had all but decided to get the S&W 329 for some backpacking in Montana/Wyoming and later Alaska, but now I'm wondering if an extra 14oz would be worth moving up to a bigger & faster...
@ Double: Thank you for the excellent insight.
Garrett probably had a darn good reason for not pushing the 310gr rounds past 1020fps in the 329. I have to assume they made that load as hot as they could, without sacrificing recoil manageability.
I read on their site that the 310gr @...
Double0757 - With the 310gr @ 1325fps Garrett's, did you notice any bullets pulling out of the crimp?
Also, do you know what barrel length they used to get 1325fps out of that load? I would assume it was probably at least a 5.5-6" barrel.
Did you by any chance have the opportunity to...
How are the Garrett 310gr .44mag loads with regards to recoil and performance? I'm willing to sacrifice some recoil manageability for great performance in brownies.
I assume those are the one's on Garrett's site specifically made for the 329PD?
I'm specifically looking at two rounds to...
I think I just answered my own question, but a confirmation would be great.
I believe the top grip/handgun is a S&W 629 w/ the std. Hogue K/L Round-to-Square grip.
The bottom should be the S&W 500 with the special "500" grip.
I'm assuming you can only get these through S&W?
