Silliest thing you ever took deer hunting

A friend kindly invited me to join his hunting party a few years ago. One of the other members of the group--who I did not know very well--hunted using a CETME with fixed bayonet. I guess his plan was to charge the elk after he had emptied the magazine.

Classic Firearms has lost me as a customer

Just be patient I tried their website and it worked fine. However, they didn't have a copy of my current C&R on file, so I had to call them. I used the number on the website and got through after several attempts. They are very busy with this $99 Mosin deal, so be patient and keep trying.

Okay, back full swing into Milsurps.... what to buy

While it is true that Swiss GP-11 is berdan primed, it can be reloaded if you are willing to go to the extra effort. You can do this two ways. First, you can remove the spent primers and re-prime with berdan primers. They can be hard to find sometimes, but lately they have been available...

    Picked up another oddball

This thread has been idle for a while, but since I recently bought a Dutch Beaumont rifle myself, I thought I'd ask for an update from Steel Horse Rider on his Dutch Beaumont. How did it perform at the range? Have you tried making your own ammo for it? Any details would be appreciated.

Never too many? What should I do?!

I agree with Hogbody. Keep what you have--as long as they function properly--and save to buy what you want. With one exception (a Taurus Judge that never worked right) I've regretted it every time I've sold a firearm.

How old were you when you got your first gun?

When I was 10 (so this would have been 1975), my uncle gave me the Japanese carbine that my grandfather had brought back from the war. I've been interested in military firearms ever since.

    Favorite Powder for pistol?

For 45 ACP with 230 FMJ RN, I've used either W231 or HP-38 without trouble.

Tell me something about Starline brass!

I've reloaded 100's of rounds of 45-70 using Starline brass. It's quality stuff.

Primer prices. What are you paying?

I purchased berdan primers early last year, but they are still sitting on the shelf (it has been a "fun" year... no, not really). My plan is to reload some 7.5x55 GP-11 brass and some Yugo 7.62x39, but I haven't gotten to it yet. So, sorry, I don't have any first hand experience to share...

Primer prices. What are you paying?

Berdan primers at Grafs This may not float everyone's boat, but I found Berdan primers in stock at Graf & Sons. Here's the link if you're interested: https://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/category/categoryId/3986? For years, I had trouble finding these, then suddenly about a year ago...

    Actual experience with Taurus

I've owned one Taurus pistol (a Judge), which malfunctioned right of of the box. I sent it back for repairs--and they took something like 5 weeks to get it back to me--but it still would not function properly. To make the experience worse, their customer service rep was rude and...

Concealed Carry in Houston TX for a Colorado Resident

All, I have a family emergency that requires me to be in Houston, TX, as soon as possible. I'm have a Colorado-issued concealed carry license and would like to carry my pistol while I'm in the Houston. Last time I looked, Colorado and Texas had reciprocity, but Houston--being a large...

    The inexpensive valuable knife list.

Based on the recommendations in this thread, I purchased a wood-handled Svord Peasant. It is a great knife for the price: simple yet sturdy construction, high carbon steel that keeps an edge, and it's fun to learn to open it (my son has almost adopted the knife as his own). Frankly, I'm...

What clever little things have you "invented or discovered" that you can share?

When I was a kid we dusted our shoes, socks, and pant-legs with powdered sulfur to keep the chiggers off when we went huckleberry picking. Seemed to work well.

    The inexpensive valuable knife list.

While I can't personally vouch for their value, two Kershaw knives are listed in the current Sportsmans Guide flyer that I received in the mail today. The first is the Kershaw "Asset" which is listed for $21.97 ($19.77 if you've signed up for their "buyer's club"). It's rated at 4 stars on...
