    Castle Doctrine

This is an excellent point. Just because you have the right to shoot an intruder does NOT mean that you are required to give them three in the head. A command to desist while your partner calls the police, or a disabling shot, to the leg, maybe, if you feel comfortable doing so, can be applied...

    Coach gun for home defense?

True, and this is one of the times when the Sicilian and Italian languages inersect (not as often as you might think). Even without the ethnographic relation, a short, hard-to-jam weapon is a first-reach tool on farms all over the world. When I first went to live on a farm, I was no stranger...

    Mmmm... Pheasant McNuggets...

Actually it looks/sounds fantastic. Though we're definitely living in a post-Food Network era :)

Wow... and I'm always afraid that I'll sound like a sissy here. (Sounds great, though)

    Advice for New Turkey Hunters

"Know the area you are going to hunt as well as possible." Yeah, I feel like this is key. Other than common sense, is there any unwritten rule about full camo safety? Either way, for someone shooting or someone on trail in turkey season?

    Advice for New Turkey Hunters

Is a 3 or 3-1/2 necessary? I assume you have to shoot steel, I'll have to check the regs. What kind of range do you usually shoot for? Or whatever you can get when they show up? You don't think the camo gun is required with sufficient cover?

    Advice for New Turkey Hunters

I've never been turkey hunting, but I've always wanted to. From what I've read it is a challenge, but I've always been a woodsman first, so I feel I'm up to it. I don't know anyone who hunts it, so I've been looking online for info and also found a couple of books I've been hinting at for...

    .357 or 38 special?

+1 on .38 I have to second jad here. I have a deep, fraternal love for my security six, but the only way I'd want to carry it around all day is in a Sam Browne. It does have a certain "crap your pants factor," though, so I keep it in the nightstand :D

JBauch, I've had all my shots, but thanks for the warning :) See you up there!

    Washington and California Clay Shooting

Sorry if this sounds dumb, but are there areas in the national forests that are set up for trap shooting, or are they just spots that people have found to be good for it? I've really only done it at ranges in the past.

Think I need a new hunting Shotgun

Get the goods If you hit a sporting goods store or Kmart, don't let them talk you into the Mossberg 500. Sometimes when they don't carry/are out of one they try to talk you into the other. As someone who's had both, they're not the same, and the difference in price is almost nothing. The MB...

    The gun nut and depression

I don't know if this is relevant to what you're asking, but I do suffer from depression occasionally. I have a stressful job that is freelance, which is great because it allows me to spend a lot of time on the trail, but when work is down- like now- it can get pretty rough, because of the whole...
