    Locktite on Base screws?

The blue loc-tite also serves to lubricate the threads when installing, allowing for a much more accurate torque driver reading than a dry screw. Some manufacturers even suggest two different torque settings for lubed and dry screws.

    30-06... Looking for Recommendations

Win. mod. 70 fwts. can be had new, at least in my neck of the woods for $779. I don't think you can possibly go wrong with that or for <> $100, the Ruger Hawkeye. I have the Hawkeye in A/W stainless and it is a really trim well-balanced rifle. I've also got a FN fwt.(S.C.) and I would really...

Thoughts on the Ruger American Centerfire. Experiences please.

FT, Have owned an Am. in .308 for about a year now and nary a hiccup. Shoots consistently at 1" or just below @100 yds. Have not experienced any feeding issues. The only changes I've made to it was to replace the Weaver bases with Talley lightweight low 1pc. ring/bases and sprayed the stock with...

    Nikon Scope

A quick way to recenter your scopes crosshairs is to hold the objective firmly against a stable (wallmounted) mirror with a good light source behind you and simply turn the adj. dials until the reflection of the crosshairs are hidden by the crosshairs themselves. Takes a LOT less dialing.

Ways to purchase a cheap Model 70 stock and bottom metal?

barbs, google CDNN, and follow to "winchester gun parts" and then to winchester stocks. Also you might check Numerich's website. Some of their stocks are about what the factory would charge, others are ridiculously cheap and I believe both carry blems.

    Federal Fusion .30-06 150 grain ???

I have run the Fusion 150s in a Ruger t/s 30-06 and an American .308. At right about 20 bucks a box(in my neck of the woods anyway) they are hard to beat. They group just as well as the $40 stuff, and the only buck I have taken with them was DRT. Something else in the cheap end of things that...

Winchester Model 70 featherweight vs Ruger Hawkeye Standard

Got both, a S.C. built fwt. in .243 walnut/blue and a Hawkeye All Weather stainless in 7mm08. If I could only keep one, it would be really hard to choose. Like jmr40 said, the mod.70 IS a more refined rifle. The moa trigger on the 70 is a little cleaner, but the LC6 is not really bad at all...

    No Featherweights for under MSRP?

Ringer, Bass Pro in Savannah has a fwt. in 7mm08 for $749 as of tonight. I asked the guy if that was the price that would apply if they could find a .308 and he said as far as he knew it would be. I bought a .243 there a couple months ago and it was $779. their ph.# is 912-961-4200 if your...

    Picking a 7mm-08

Ditto on the Winchester. Got a .243 in a Carolina Featherweight and I've got to say, in my 58 years it is the finest out the box gun I've ever owned. (Just wish after purchasing a 7mm08 Hawkeye that i had gotten the Mod. 70 in 7-08.( My new favorite cartridge).

    Kicking tires for a rifle

To consider a step up, how about the Ruger Hawkeye. I've got nothing against the American, I've got one in .308 and have been exceptionally pleased with it for it's purposes. But I've also got a Hawkeye All-Weather in 7mm08 and it is a much more refined rifle. Mine was $630 at PSA. (4+1 also).

Winchester M70s now assembled in Portugal?

I spoke with the firearms buyer for Bass pro and was told that the move was to eliminate what is apparently a huge backlog for Mod. 70s. That and to be able to increase production going forward in a facility much more suitable. I guess we can all speculate as to cost-cutting, but it seems that...
