    Wife is shopping - Xd / CZ/ M&P

I (or my wife) have or have had all three. Of the three, two were chambered in 9mm; I had the CZ P-01 and my wife has the M&P 9. The XD is a .45 and is therefore a different beast. But what a beast! Ergonomically, the XD is the most comfortable non-1911 handgun I have shot, and it is my...

Attention Potential Ban Profiteers: Hr1022 Sux!

What should I be doing? I get complacent at times, living in one of the most pro-gun of pro-gun states that I don't think of how I should be helping on other fronts.

    Best First .45 ACP

1911's are a wonderful gun. At the risk of sounding like a hyperbole-spewing 1911 robot, I'm beginning to wonder what I'm doing with anything but 1911's. I don't shoot anything as well as I do a 1911, they're flat enough so that carrying one is pretty straightforward (or so I've heard; darn...

    .45 XD Compact

I've got one. It's honestly a great little gun. I got it because I wanted to carry a .45 and I've found that carrying a 1911 feels like carrying a lead brick on my belt. So, something smaller and lighter was called for, and the XD fit that bill nicely. I got it at Cabelas, mostly because I...

DPMS LR-308 and SA Surplus 7.62 NATO

I've often wondered the same thing. I'm devote meticulous attention to what I do when I reload, and I can say that I do everything in my power to see to it that nothing goes wrong with my ammo. So, how would they know, barring one of the aforementioned snafus, what I was shooting? In short, I...

    M&P 9 Owners!

Now, an important part of this equation that I absentmindedly left out is that it's a new with fewer than 300 rounds through it. It's not a MA compliant model, came with the hi-cap magazines and everything, and six pounds sounds right, but it's gritty, and that's my biggest complaint. If it...

    M&P 9 Owners!

My wife has an M&P 9, and as far as its ergos and pointability, it points nicely. Not as well as my XD, but pretty good nonetheless. It's major weak point is the trigger, which, I must say, is simply ungodly. Gritty and heavy. Yuck. I've wanted to get a trigger job for it, but the smiths...

    .223 and Win 748

My target load for my AR is 25.1 grains of 748 behind a 55 grain FMJ bullet with a Winchester primer. The accuracy at 100 yards is quite impressive; I have shot 1" groups ("group", I should say; it happened all of once) at that distance with iron sights. I started out about 24.2 grains because...

    FNP 45 / or glock 21 ?? can't decide, need opinions

I had a lousy experience with the FNP-40. While firing, the takedown lever bounced up and dug into the slide, creating a sizable gouge in the slide after 200 rounds. By sizable, I mean probably 1/2 inch long and deeper than one would expect from such a thing. Also, the fit was substandard...

    Lowest Felt Recoil 45

Whatever fits in your hand best. Well, I guess it isn't quite that simple. Of all the .45's I've shot, 1911's are the softest shooting, likely because they weigh a ton. However, they also fit my hand very well. My P220, however, did not fit me as well, and as a result I felt more recoil and...

    44 Mag Leverlution

I've heard good things about their Lever Evolution offering in .30-30. Some claim that the accurate range of the cartridge goes from around 150-200 yards to closer to 250 or even 300 yards. I've never tried it, but once I get my Marlin 336 you can bet that I will. If it works for .30-30, I...

    removing a live primer?

Ditto on decapping it. Done it dozens of times, no problems. Just use an element of care and you're golden.

    Some XD Questions

I hadn't put more than 300 rounds before my XD-45 before I noticed that the trigger was markedly smoother than before. At this point, it's probably at about five pounds, if not a little lighter, and it's nothing but a joy to shoot.

FNP, fool me twice, shame on me....

I also had a bad experience with an FNP-40. I no longer own the gun. Good choice on the Sig, by the way; I doubt there'll be parts cracking on that gun anytime soon.
