Maybe it's because many of the NATO countries had already standardized on 9mm. The Browning hi power was pretty popular. For most European countries, the 9mm was more powerful than their former military sidearms. Heck, even in the us military 38 special revolvers were issued until after WWII...

This is an excellent point. Not all walmarts carry ammo, but a significant number do. I actually think that if the big box stores raised their prices in line with demand (like most LGS), we'd see the hoarding/panic buying slow down, demand would normalize, and then prices would drop back down.

For number 1, keep in mind that the M1, m14, and m16, to my knowledge, all use floating firing pins too. It's pretty typical of military rifles.

Sounds like a pretty fun choice. One note about the poly pistols not fitting your hand well. It's easy on an m&p, and I think some of the others, to swap out the back strap for a better grip depending on hand size.

It's interesting that the NFA is written as a tax, because Congress at the time acknowledged that that was what their powers were limited to. Then 50 years later they passed the Hughes amendment, which doesn't have that grounding, and people haven't challenged their power to do so.

You can definitely train animals to not react to gun shots. My range has a large amount of wooded area surrounded by suburban developments. The deer, coyotes, and rabbits don't pay attention to the noise anymore and will wander across live ranges. :)

How do you avoid the rust? I'm guessing that what happened to the OP is that water got trapped under the tape, and that is what caused the rust. How do you prevent water from wicking under the tape?
