Funny thing is, as soon as I saw the title of this thread, I knew it was about Garands. They're solid, accurate, powerful, dependable, historic, available, reasonably priced, AND fun to collect, work on, and shoot. Plus you get the the *PING* for free. What's not to like? :)

If it's a straight M24 and not a 24/47, it'd certainly be a good price. 24/47s are pretty commonly available and could probably be had for a tad less. Not a bad price either way, they are certainly good plinkers, and ammo's dead cheap. If you've seen the rifle and like it, grab it.

The '44 Springfield that I recently got from ejohne is far and away my favorite of the three Garands I own! It appears to be nearly original less the op rod and rear sight from a visit to RIA (stamped on the stock), and it's in beee-yoo-tee-ful shape. A great guy to do business with!

Hard to beat a KOBRA. I've got one on mine, and it works great. Really reasonably priced too. edited to add: It's Russian made, so it slides right on the side mount on a SAR-1 no muss, no fuss.
