    Steyr M95 Straight-Pull Bolt Action - Opinions?

They can be loaded without the enbloc clip, however, there is a great risk of breaking the extractor. I own 5 M95 Steyrs, they're a ball to shoot,I handload my ammo for them. As for the recoil,to me,they're about the same as an M44 or M38 Mosin, moderate recoil.

I use 4.6 grains of Bullseye with a 200 grain LSWC,very accurate, and I've used that load for close to 38yrs now,so no reason for me to change.:D

    Powder for 7.62x54r

At least you are able to shoot it,shooting prone will probably help,as will standing, but from the sounds of it,you're at bit limited at your range, but it certainly beats not shooting at all! Fortunately, the rifle range I shot and work at,goes to 400 yards, with shooting benches and a shelter...

    Powder for 7.62x54r

Make certain you are holding the rifle tight against your shoulder,so it doesn't have a "running start" to pound into your shoulder,I learned this the hard way.:D Also, are you shooting it from the bench,or standing? The recoil will be more punishing/noticeable shooting from the bench,at least...

    Powder for 7.62x54r

I use IMR 4320 in the 54R,150 grain .303 soft point at 2900fps. I don't understand why people complain about the recoil of a Mosin 91/30 or M44,my Mosins are the softest recoiling rifles of all the 28 rifles I own.

Top 5 milsup bolt-action rifles to own?

I prefer the foreign bolt action rifles.French,Italian,Japanese,Russian, German and Austro Hungarian, over any American military bolt action rifle, seems to me the American military bolt action rifles are nothing more than copies of foreign military bolt action rifles.

    Why Not a M1 Garand?

I've never had the desire to own one,I've shot a few but was very unimpressed with them. I prefer iron sights over optics and bolt action over semi auto. I own a few mil surps,21 to be exact, none of which are semi autos, and none are American, seems the American mil surps are copies of European...
