Small Game Hunter Number Down in Ohio & Other Interesting Tidbits

When I lived in CO, I used to hunt rabbits about every other weekend or so all season long, from around Oct. to Feb. The daily limit was ten rabbits, and I always came close to that number by hunting from sun up to about 10:30 AM. This went on for about four years, before I moved. Easy, fun...

Seattle man to pack a pistol into community center to protest mayor's ban

I'm assuming he'll file suit pro se.

    Ferals

Folks, feral is not the same as a varmint. A coyote is not feral, nor is a starling. The former is a varmint and the latter is an invasive species. Feral animals are invasive species, but not all invasive species are feral.

How to choose a lawyer... or get one when you need one

If you know any cops, judges, prosecutors, court clerks or others who have actually witnessed the sort of advocacy that any given lawyer brings to the table, then ask them who the would hire if their butt was on the line. If not, it can be a crap shoot. And unfortunately many lawyers are...

TX Game warden took photos of my serials...

Can anyone cite a case where the power of game wardens to search is somehow superior to the 4th amendment rights of the searchees? I've heard this many times, but I don't buy it. I'm pretty sure that if a game warden decided to just poke around in my garage to see if I had any illegal game...

Can postings be used against us?

Yes, they can be used against you, if the are 1) relevant, 2) more probative than prejudicial, and 3) authenticated through the laying of a proper foundation.

    Pointy bullets and the 30-30

I was happy with my 30-30 as a deer rifle when all you could buy was non-spitzer bullet ammo. I'm even happier now that I shoot Leverevolutions.

Warm enough deer stand for Nov in MN?

You could probably use a pop-up blind with a Mr. Buddy heater. That, and some warm clothes, and she should be OK.

What exact spot do you aim for on large mammals, four legged?

Center mass of the front third of the animal, basically where T.R.'s dot is. If you look at the vitals cutaway above in bang bang's post, you can see that the lungs are a lot bigger than the heart, and a shot to the lungs is just as deadly as a heart shot.

What are your goals for the 2009 Deer season?

I'll be rifle hunting in WA and PA. My goal will be the same as always, any legal deer to fill my freezer and feed my family.

    Divorce and Guns taken away

I, for one, think that the judge exceeded his authority when he issued the order. Some posters above have stated that the judge is somehow not bound by the Constitution, but that is not true. The judge couldn't legally order someone to stop going to a certain church, or to stop reading certain...

How bad if SCOTUS rules against Incorporation?

If the Second were incorporated, then there would be a certain degree of protection against infringement anywhere in the country, but states would be free to provide greater protections under their own laws.

    Shooting from your treestand

My stand has a rail, but all the shots I've taken out of it have been within 40 yards, at Pennsylvania whitetail bucks, and I just threw the gun up to my shoulder and shot. Speed was more important that getting the perfect rest. I really like the rail, though, because it makes me feel a lot...

    Powerbelts- What's your opinion?

They aren't as accurate as sabots, but they are still plenty accurate for hunting. They do disintegrate too easily, IMHO, but the bear I shot never knew what hit him, as all the energy from the bullet was dumped into his skull.

    S&W 642 and +P's

I love the gun, but I don't enjoy plinking with it. If others find it a fun gun to shoot, more power to them. But for me, it's a pocket rocket that is often carried and seldom shot.
