Dillon 550B or Hornady Lock N' Load?

I started with a Lee turrent press with Pro auto disk powder measure that connected to the bell die for powder charge in second stage. I then purchased the Hornady LNL Auto. When loading pistol rounds, I use the auto disk powder measure on the bell die just like on the turrent press. This...

ONE MORE PROGRESSIVE DEBATE! not which is better though

I have experience on both the 550 and the L-N-L. They are both good presses and fairly easy to set up. The 550 does not auto index. This is good when first starting out, but soon becomes a feature that you wish you could change. The Hornady has the ability to swap dies quickly and has quick...

Tumbling bulk brass - how long to remove lube?

I usually tumble for about a hour and a half to remove the Imperial sizing wax that I use as a lubricant. I use corn for removing the lubricant. I use walnut for first cleaning prior to sizing. I change the tumbling media fairly often.

Hornady Lock-N-Load AP vs. RCBS Pro 2000

Well, I got my new LNL AP set up this weekend and ran about 250 rounds of 40 S&W through it. Worked fine except missed primer 1 time. I think it was my fault for not seating it. I went ahead and used the lee auto powder measure that I had been using on the Lee turrent press because it...

Hornady Lock-N-Load AP vs. RCBS Pro 2000

Thanks Cortland for you information. In setting up the press last night, I was having problems with the ejector spring kicking the finished rounds across the room. Is there any way of adjusting this? The indexing worked great. Was very accurate in locating the shell plate directly under the...

Hornady Lock-N-Load AP vs. RCBS Pro 2000

I just received my new LNL AP from Midway yesterday. It is serial number 8,xxx so it has the new floor plate and priming system. I would love to learn from current AP users how they set up their presses and any other lessons learned. My initial impression is that it is a well thought out...

    .223 reload savings???

The way to save in reloading is to pick up discarded cases from range so cost is $0, then buy mil surplus powder, buy primers by the 5,000 and last buy bulk FMJ bullets. Loading this way you can get down to the $0.08 per round range. This does not include labor time. JW

    Lube issues, stuck cases

I use Imperial sizing lube for my rifle cases. For my .223 die, I have gone to a carbide ball so I do not lube inside of neck. Have not had a stuck case. For 30-06 and other size cases, I use a Q tip with lube on every other case. For all cases, I tumble to remove lube. JW

    Powder for the .223.

For 55 gr bullets, I have had good luck using surplus military powder. I use WC846, but I hear WC844 is the powder originally used for the .223 round. It is a ball powder like W748 or BL-C2. It is a lot cheaper than other powders. For heavier bullets, ie. 75 gr, I use RL-15. JW
