Do you think the price difference between 45acp and 9mm is enough to make a difference or should I ignore it?

I was hoping to ask some questions of anyone who has either of these pistols or has fired them. As I try to decide between them I am wondering a few things. I am hoping to buy a pistol that I can initially use as a range gun but eventually start to carry when I am more comfortable with it...
