    Thinking on a CZ 527

Oops on my earlier post. I checked my .223 when I got home from work and it is a 1 in 12, not a 1 in 9. Oh well, my memory falters as my hair grays.

    Thinking on a CZ 527

I have CZ 527 Carbines in both .223 and 7.62x39 and they are both sweet little shooters. But there are a few things you should be aware of: 1) The CZ 527 has a high bolt rise, so you will either have to use high rings or a scope with a small ocular bell to clear the bolt. 2) The iron...

    Match Grade Machine Encore Barrels

I have a couple of their barrels, and they produce a quality product. Accuracy: If accuracy is your top concern, you can request they use a Shilen match grade blank for $50 extra. The quest for accuracy in an Encore can be a frustrating one, but MGM produces a product that is capable if the...

Is my new lee turret and dies rusting?

Do you have an air conditioner vent blowing directly onto your press? I have had several iron/steel items develop surface rust when exposed to the a/c air flow during the spring and summer while other identical items a few feet away were fine. BTW, Flitz metal polish also does an excellent...

XS Ghost Ring sight loose on Marlin 1894

I had the same issue with the XS Ghost Rings on my 1894FG. I just ground a little bit from the end of the screws until I got a snug fit. The screws work fine on the 336's.

Lee PPM Leaks a bunch - any fixes?

Assuming PPM means Perfect Powder Measure, you adjust the "Rotor Tension Adjustment" screw, per page 4 of the instruction manual. You can get the manual here: http://www.leeprecision.com/html/instruct/index.html My experience is that certain powders (like H110) will always leak a little...

    good cheap scope?

I have a couple of the fixed power Bushnell 4x32 rimfire scopes and they work fine. One of the biggest problems I have found with the cheaper rimfire scopes is the useless rings they come with. I usually toss the rings and use something of better quality. Since you are mounting the scope on a...

The Stevens Model 200... opinions please

I have them in 223, 243, 7mm-08, 308, 30-06, and 300 Win Mag. If you are buying new, the 200 will be a centerfeed model. If you are looking at used, you may find some staggered feed. All of them will have the newer round rear receiver top (for when you buy scope mounts). All of mine were...

Ruger Bisley vs Redhawk in 45

I have a 5.5" Bisley 45 and a 5.5" Redhawk 45, and have shot them side by side before. The Redhawk is a massive gun and is capable of handling some very stiff loads, but I don't find shooting the extra power 45 loads to be that comfortable in either of them. I shot some of the same extra power...

    Thompson/Center Encore Rifle

The Encore is a fairly lightweight rifle, so if you intend to do a lot of shooting off a bench I recommend getting the Flex-Tech butt stock. With low recoil rounds it is not a big deal, but if you shoot the magnums or something like a heavier loaded 45-70 there is a pain factor after a few...

Opinion Needed on a 338 Win Mag

A brand new Ruger M77 Hawkeye in stainless runs just shy of $600 around here. Unless your gun prices are much higher or you just love the idea of a muzzle brake, the price seems a little steep.

    Sub-sonic 303 loads

Shooting a jacketed rifle bullet (assuming you mean a 125 gr bullet intended for the 7.62x39) at 700 fps is not a good idea. At some point, you will stick one in the bore. You can probably use cast bullets or some of the 32 cal pistol bullets such as these for better results...

    Thinking about reloading 7.62x54R

Have you slugged the bore on your rifle(s)? The MN 91 and derivatives have bore sizes all over the place, and you may need either .308 or .310-.311 diameter bullets for best results. You might also want to think about cast bullets if you are just wanting ammo to practice with at the range.

Where to find wood stock for Savage Model 10?

I just changed out a synthetic for the Boyds JRS Classic wood stock on a Savage short action. I ordered it from Cabelas and it was an easy drop in fit and looks great. If you aren't aware, Savage has two front action screw lengths -- one for wood stocks with box magazines and one for synthetic...

    Gun "safe"

Your goals (10 long guns + 2 handguns + keep guns out of untrained hands) and your budget ($200) would probably be best met by a Stack-On 14 gun Security Cabinet: Here is the product info: http://www.stack-on.com/securityplus/gun_security/gc-914-5.html And Academy Sports sells them for...
