For me, there’s just not enough advantages over my .308 at the ranges I hunt at, which are < 225 yards.

Last year I was in South Carolina during that flood they had. I sat in that stand with plastic on my walnut and blue BAR thinking I should get a more weather proof rifle...I now have a Howa with synthetic stock and non blues finish just for those occasions.

I've mainly used .308 and .270, but will be carrying a .243 this year for the first time.

There are more expensive, more modern rings out there, but Leupold rings (IMO) are quality made. My main experience with Leupold rings have been with the standard and dual dovetails, but I do have one rifle with the weaver style Leupold's and they hold just fine.

I own a 1985 BAR in .308, but I'm not an expert. I just loaded one shell, and it ejected without issue, and the bolt did lock back.
