    Reduced recoil youth shotshell load

Definitely agree with above posts, stick to published recipes. That said, when it comes to recoil (at least free recoil which is controlled by the round vs felt recoil which is controlled by lots of things like firearm weight, action type, buttstock pads, etc), its all a question of physics, ie...

    Old Powders, same load data?

Thanks, sounds like I should be safe then. I always start at recommended starting loads and then work up from there for reliability in autoloaders, or down for pleasentness of shooting. Of all my current recipes, I've actually never even loaded anything at max charges.

    Old Powders, same load data?

Ya, that's actually what I'm most interested in using them for. I'm pretty happy with my 12ga recipes using Clays, HS-6, and actually have found good use for the 700-X. I also have some loads I've been using in 9mm and 45acp for quite awhile that I'm fairly happy with, but have been interested...

    Old Powders, same load data?

So after finding out that I was into reloading, my uncle was kind enough to give me his entire, primarily shotshell reloading setup, including a MEC 600, thousands of wads, about 300lbs of shot, and some powders from when he used to be into it. It has apparently all just been collecting dust in...

    1860 sale at Cabelas

So, I'm used to the pinky finger under the grip type hold on my shorter gripped 1851's and SAA's, but the longer grip is new to me. Do ya'll keep the same grip with an 1860 or move that pinky up to join its friends on the front of the grip? Don't really have small hands, and could probably be...

Video, Making and screening Black Powder

Thanks BH! The first batch was definitely dried out, made it a week or two before the 2nd batch, and didn't even shoot either of them until a couple weeks after I made the 2nd batch (making the first batch a month or so old), and had them stored with some homemade deessicant packs (silica gel...

Video, Making and screening Black Powder

So.... then on to my 2nd batch. This time, since I thought that the # of balls the first time around looked a little light, and the tumbler seemed to handle it just fine, I added some more balls to each drum the 2nd time around. In addition, I tumbled longer, maybe 8 or 9 hours. Again, wet...

Video, Making and screening Black Powder

Been meaning to post about the fruits of my labors and thanks to BrushHippie for setting me on the path towards making my own BP. Got the bug back in August when I first saw this thread, and quickly started accumulating the materials to make it happen. So far have made 2 batches using...

    1860 sale at Cabelas

Dernit, I'm $160 poorer but 1 1860 richer this evening thanks to you guys! Just bought a twin brother to my 1851 "Navy" Marshall about a month ago on the sale to have a matching set for CAS, and that was supposed to be my only Christmas gift from me to me for the season, but couldn't pass that...

inexpensive s.s. nipples for Pietta revolvers

FWIW, I got no grief from Rydon/RMCoxyoke about my request for a return. I didn't actually say what type of caps I used, just left it at the caps I want to use don't work on these nipples. They promptly responded "sorry they didn't work out for me," send them back and return your payment. Plan...

inexpensive s.s. nipples for Pietta revolvers

Well, I took the plunge and bought two sets from rmcoxyoke.com, was hoping that for less than the price of one set of either TOW or slixshot, I'd be able to get working replacements for my 2 Cabelas "stainless" Marshall "1851's" I'm wanting to get set up reliably for CAS. Unfortunately, looks...

Sorry for needing the hand holding, but someone else asked this earlier and didn't see an answer. Your link to the KNO3 has both anticake and no-anticake varieties. I'm guessing we want the no-anticake? Just pure KNO3 without extra additives? Already ordered some "black willow charcoal"...

What do you use to store your homemade black powder? Can I use empty plastic Hodgdon canisters from pyrodex/smokeless powers (assuming of course all smokeless powder is cleaned out)? I've seen various instructions for using water vs alcohol for wetting/balling the powder prior to screening...

Midway USA and a Curio / Relic License

Where do you find Brownells coupons like that. Best thing I've ever found for them is free shipping on $99+. Haven't seen coupons for orders less than 100. In the past, I've used MidwayUSA more as they have coupons for lower value orders, and they ship to my house in about 1-2 days. But with...
