when does a compressed load become dangerous?

OK, use it if you spell it correctly.. :-) Though someone should really explain what it means. Don't know if anyone has seen the new Hodgdon reloading webpage. Pretty nice! Notice how many "C" loads they specify i.e. compressed. They are pretty common.

Primers blowing out in 300 Blackout

When I do my Blackout loads I crimp the bullet at the cannelure so they certainly aren't loose. I don't use magnum primers (at least not yet) and seen other forums where they say either is fine so I didn't worry about it. Getting 1950 fps consistently, I don't think squibs are a serious issue...

    Brisance? C'mon... really?

    Help! Newbie chasing C.O.L.!

Relax, you're doing fine Like other said don't sweat a few mils on overall length. If you tried to get them all nuts on, you'd never get any reloading done. Using MY Lee reloader it is very sensitive to how hard you stroke the handle when reloading. Just try to be consistent and you'll...

Primers blowing out in 300 Blackout

I had the same problem with my first batch of repurposed 5.56 brass converted to 300 blackout. About every 7th or 8th primer would pop out when fired. They would jam the bolt so it wouldn't cycle. I knew it was possibly due to a couple of issues. Since these are repurposed 5.56 brass they...

Do I really need any other caliber than 9mm?

I'm with Prosser. Which gun is sort of moot if you are being stalked by a cougar. You won't even know what hit you. They do this for a living... and if you are in their territory you are in their element, not yours.

Do I really need any other caliber than 9mm?

I'm not a 9mm hater, it a great round for gopher shooting, but you'd have to admit if the 9mm was a good anti personnel round, the Pope would be dead. He was shot 4 times, twice in the intestines at near point blank range and lived. (Though he likely had some divine intervention.) I can't...

Reloading for a Henry Big Boy

You are right on in everything you said. I'm unloading all the .38 specials and will reload them to the correct levels. I guess I was a little too paranoid about the 1932 Colt Police Special. The gunsmith said it can handle a modern factory +P load so I'm going to dispense with the mouse fart...

    Henry big boy 357

Henry and side loading Even being a Henry BB owner I can't disagree with the Marlin/Uberti comments. The load tube is a PITA. On a cold day I could hardly open it due to the O-ring that keeps it snug. Henry sent me a slightly smaller one and now its OK. Its a nice gun but if I had the...

    357/38 Rifles???

I have a Henry Big Boy in .357/.38 caliber. I haven't had any huge issues cycling .357 rounds but its not exactly stellar cycling .38s. SWC lead bullets... forget it. The LRN bullets cycle fine about 90% of the time. Basically it needs some help with regard to bullet geometry to work without...

Reloading for a Henry Big Boy

OK it's confesion time... Don't be too hard on me. I learned my lesson. I just want to relay an experince I've had in using my handgun reloads for my rifle chambered for the same calibers. Hopefully it will help someone else avoid the same mistake. I have several pistols that I reload...

    Pick only 3 pistols

Best gun I'd pick a Ruger GP-100 in .357 caliber and learn how to shoot it well. Doubt you'd need anything else. But in the spirit of the question... My CZ-52 is about as nasty a handgun as you can find. Its scary. Anyone that owns one, knows what I mean. It will punch holes thru 1/2"...

Do I really need any other caliber than 9mm?

Lions and tigers and bears... Mountain lions and bears... I'd take the biggest thing I'm comfortable with. They don't just stand there and let you shoot them. If you got one or two shots, you'd be lucky. You'd likely never see the ML if he was on the hunt. Any time I'm in the woods, doing...

    Cartridge swelling

Anyone care to comment on why the report is so much different? I still don't understand that. It is remarkably different... the Winchester is a big BANG. the hand load is much quiter and higher pitched. No real bang at all. Its very subdued.

    Cartridge swelling

Thanks for the feedback. I hadn't really thought about the loads being the same, just delivering more velocity. I just thought they didn't have a particilar reason other than they didn't have a load so they just duplicated the handgun load. Lesson learned. Thanks for that one, I completely...
