Yes, it is the same recoil spring as the Colt Junior.

I'd clean out the firing pin channel and inspect the firing pin for chips, uneven wear, etc.
The firing pin spring could be the wrong one but it being weak would not cause it to not fire.
If it jams after firing then I'd bet it's the recoil spring or a bad extractor. Remove the extractor and see...
The only difference I am aware of is many thought the other chambering, .25ACP, would work for the .22 Short. That is not true.
The 2 different calibers do not interchange. So make sure you buy a .22 Short magazine and you should be good to go.
I found it easy, and cheap, to change out the screws for a better look.
