Webley Mk. IV - .445 Webley to .45 Colt?

I read in the 2001 Gun Digest of a fellow who sections pistols to show their internal workings. He said that the Webley revolver's fame and cylinder were made of rather soft metal, which he found easy to cut away with his hand-tools. I should think that this contributes to the .45 ACP Webley...

    7.62 x 43

Just an idea, but 7.62 x 39mm is sometimes known as M43 (as it was adopted by the Soviets in 1943). Boring answer, I know, but maybe the "M" just got smudged on the box to look like an "X"?

Your thoughts about this old revolver

Alas, no. The barrel wedge is completely rusted in place and the metal is so soft that we were denting it even when tapping it gently with a wooden mallet. Guess when he oldtimers spoke of "shootin' irons" they really did mean iron! I wouldn't have thought that this thing was safe to fire, even...

Your thoughts about this old revolver

Reserecting the thread... I have the evil twin of your gun here, I believe. http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=187908 I trawled through a lot of books, but came to the conclusion that it was almost impossible to identify it. The closest match I found was a Webley-Bentley, as...

    How to reserect Gyrojet...

Probably should have called this the "Future Pistol" thread Well, the point of this thread was not "how do we build a rocket-pistol?" (I think we're all aware that, sans warhead, you might as well be launching bottle-rockets at someone), it was "how do we make the Gyrojet better?". i.e. Working...

    Good Nunchaku?

Pirate trouble...? (Sorry, couldn't resist) Ebay seem to have something against (real) Nunchaku, for some reason, but I spotted several metal sai in there. Which are much less dangerous, of course... Do you want them for practice, or as interesting wall-hangers or something?

    How to reserect Gyrojet...

Some good ideas there, Car Knocker! Hadn't thought of a spring-powered chamber insert before. Do you figure that there'd be more fouling than a conventional round? I think we'll use some fairly regular pistol powder for propellant -- unless there's a reason not to, of course. True. But...

    How to reserect Gyrojet...

The question about the MBA Gyrojet got me thinking... What would it take to un-:cuss: this design? So rather than hijack that thread, here are my thoughts... Make sure that the round reaches all-burnt as it leaves the muzzle. Forget those silly nozzles -- make the back end open-up like the...

Does anybody own a field-target or any other high-powered air-gun?

The most tragic thing, I think, about the Brocock ban, was that if they had only been in .177, .20 or .25 -- anything other than .22 -- no cheap "gangsta" wannabes would ever have set eyes on one. As it was, a fun, interesting concept was practically killed-off because some proto-psychos...

looking for info on an old pistol

The pinfire is said to have been patented in 1835, but only perfected by Houiller in 1846/7. Well, that's what it says here, anyway... Seems that it only caught on a bit later.

(Switzerland) Right to bear arms set to trigger new debate

This reminded me of something I heard on TV a few years ago. The show was "QI" (standing for "quite interesting", apparently) and the host (Stephen Fry) perfectly demonstrated Twain's quote about "lies, damned lies and statistics". He claimed that Switzerland has the highest proportion of gun...

Newbie gun question. I don't have a clue what it is...

First, let me start by saying that Jim Keenan truely knows his stuff. He has probably forgotten more about firearms than most of us will ever know. However... I can't agree that the proof-mark has any bearing on this guns place of origin. Quoting from page 138 of Zhuk, on the difficulties...

    Gun related names???

    Q) How hard is it to work a cat-related pun into gun names? A) Very. "Argh!! Kalashnicat!! Why have you left half a bird in my shoe!?!"

    linseed oil for stocks?

There was an excellent article in the 2001 Gun Digest on finishing with linseed oil. It involved a lot of sanding down with ascending grades of wet-or-dry paper and using lemon juice, egg-white and rubbing alcohol to fill the pores in the wood, rather than whiskering. I tried it on a load of...

Newbie gun question. I don't have a clue what it is...

I'm a sucker for obscure firearms...;) Zhuk doesn't mention much about these gun to be honest, but "Pistols of the World" says that Crucelegui manufactured large numbers of basically the same design between 1900 and 1925, under a variety of trade-names. They can be found "all over the...
