Went in a local retail sporting goods chain store today to see. They usually have a good selection and stock. Handgun case was mostly empty. All semiauto rifles were gone. At 3:00 there were 2 people in process doing paperwork, about 12 in line, and one poor guy working the counter by himself.
This sounds like lack of basic gunhandling skills and needs to be addressed immediately.
I won't repeat advice on order of operations to clear a gun. What I will stress is the need for training and practice.
At the very least this person should purchase some snap caps or dummy rounds and...
Have to agree with 1911guy - new Para's not the same as old. I have a P-14 I bought new in '95 (when Para was still in Canada). I recently handled some new P-14's in some shops and I would not put them in the same quality class.
I've had good luck with Roguard on a duty gun (frequent exposure) in a rainy, seaside environment. My only experience with NP3 is on internals, where it help up perfectly.
I would at least look into NP3+. It's 20% off right now at Robar. Be advised though, your gun won't double as a signal...
