Identity and Date of Manufacture of S&W Revolvers

Fascinating info--kind of read my mind as I was surprised about the value of the grips, I sort of knew the significance of the diamond but I figured they wouldn't be worth much since they had some wear and tear. This looks like a gun that has entered and left a holster somewhat often. The stock...

Thanks much for the info Radagast, my father will have a good laugh over my first gun being older than he is... haha

Buying a Model 10, looking for advice

Noted... will have to learn more about weapon retention. Still trying to figure out where the best places to do firearms training are around here (few miles east of Seattle, WA) edit: Just learned from the age thread that the gun is a few years earlier than I thought :)

Buying a Model 10, looking for advice

I forgot to mention that, the serial is C190171--surprising about the value of the stocks, they are a bit worn. Can't wait to take her to the range. Need to introduce her to my girlfriend too as she will be our home defense gun once we move in together. The seller said it was a 1954 gun but I...

Buying a Model 10, looking for advice

Hey guys, Just a follow up, I went with Old Fuff's advice and picked up the M&P. She may be a little older and the blue is wearing in places but she sure looks fine, much better than the listing pictures :D (more pictures here:http://img39.imageshack.us/g/sw1w.jpg/) Thanks for your advice...

Cheapest .38 special ammo on the West Coast?

New shooter here--I was just about to place an order for one of Georgia Arms's cans of remanufactured .38 ammo only to find that shipping for the West Coast is almost twice what it costs for the East and that makes it a lot less attractive price wise. I could go to a Walmart but it'd be a...

Wow, #5 on my list finished at $580 with 25 shipping. Two guys got into a bidding war at the end.

Thanks for the research Evan. I had seen some of those but it's nice to get some perspective. Wasn't sure if rust spots and such could have an effect on the shooting mechanics. I bid on #2 already but if it goes too high I'll keep those in mind. Thanks again!

Buying a Model 10, looking for advice

Sorry to double post but I have another question for those who are familiar with M&Ps. I'm guessing that one issue with these older guns is they don't take +p ammo very well. What kind of bullets should I be using for these two purposes (range practice, defense) with a pre-model 10?

Buying a Model 10, looking for advice

Thanks to everyone (esp Old Fuff's knowledge of old M&Ps) who gave advice! I had not given too much attention to that 1954 M&P--"older is better" is a bit counterintuitive, but it does make sense now that I think about it. Going to go for that one. I did consider the Colt OP but have read in...

Buying a Model 10, looking for advice

Hi guys, Based on friends' recommendations I'm looking for a S&W Model 10 for target shooting/home defense (originally was after a .38 Diamondback but decided it really wasn't worth paying 4 digits for one). Max budget is around $500, but from what I've seen the market value is significantly...
