Superb SD gun. Get some .38 Spl +P ammo. You'll find them to be pleasurable as compared to the Magnums. You can get the same SD Ammo IE: Critical Defense, DPX, Etc...
I carry a 329PD often. Although it's chambered as a .44 Magnum, I prefer shooting Specials in it. This revolver is without a doubt the most painful .44 Magnum I have ever shot, and I own a LOT of .44 Magnums (7 to be exact)! But as a carry revolver, this revolver is so light you hardly know you...
The 629-6 Performance Center at the bottom will pretty much consume your budget, especially if you scope it. It's a worthy investment though.
You can get a new 629-5 Classic for about 900.00 to 1200.00. Great revolver! Deadly accurate.
Finally (top photo), you can always pick up a Ruger...
I did the same thing. Each gun I own is documented with a photo, serial number, and current value. The problem is... my wife now knows how many guns I "really" own. I used to get away with "a couple of em'".
I guess "under rated" needs to be clearly defined, because every gun I've seen you guys list here could or would ex-sponge human life if necessary. I carry a Ruger LCR, a Taurus Ultra-Lite Model 85UL, sometimes a S&W Model 60, and I keep a S&W 329PD in the car. Under rated? I hardly think so...
There is no shortage of places to buy supplies. Local gun shops, Bass Pro, Wal Mart, etc. If you are really that concerned, then stop being so picky and use what's available.
