Ok fair enough, I dont own an M1 or any other auto loading 30-06, mine is in fact a bolt gun. Next time I see someone shooting a M1 im gonna scoop up his brass right after fired and squeeze it as hard as I can in my fist. Maybe that will shut me up!
I fire a .223 our of my AR. The spent case is scalding hot.
I fire a .30-06 out my browning. The spent case is barely warm to the touch.
Whats with the huge difference in temperature of the fired cases. Yes there is substantially more brass in the 30-06 case and would take more energy to...
Ok fine so lets say the pressures are roughly the same. Than whats the big harm in using Varget (or any slower burning powder) if im getting roughly the same velocities and its not over-pressuring the gun. Why do people say it isnt "optimal" to use a faster burning powder for heaveir bullets.
Ive been reloading for a little bit now, far from expert but powder selection has always kind of confused me. Im looking on HODGON's web page http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp for a good load for 30-06 shooting 190gr. Ive been using IMR4350 and no complaints with it.
Their data...
Thanks guys, also how often should it be expected to have to trim a case like 30-06. I trimmed each one to about .010 under max case length, am I going to be over after every shot? every third shot? what should I expect?
And what's the specific harm in trimming a case too short?
Awesome thats for that trick Skrykervet. Im sure Im going to be spamming this board for a while with all my questions Im sure im going to come up with.
Brand new to reloading here just got a RCBS press set up and put together my first batch of 30-06. My question is what is a satisfactory way to determine bullet seating depth for my rifle and how far off the grooves should I seat it, preferably a way without buying one of those chamber gauges...
I have the 511 with the ring and 1MOA dot. I think with just the dot alone it would be difficult to aquire quickly, its pretty small. I would definitly stick with the ring.
Also get one that at least uses AAA batteries. My 511 uses tiny N cell batteries and it eats those up too quick...
