I would start with something smaller(and less expensive) if I was in your position. The 300 will be too hard on your shoulder(and wallet) that you won't be able to enjoy it.

My dad has a weatherby markv in 270 weatherby and 30-06. He and I like them both. And the wood on the weatherbys is probably the best around.

Ok. I see now. The only advice I could give you is to take it slow and start out short, you can always move back in if you want to.

In my lyman manual the 300 weatherby edges out the 300 RUM by a hundred fps or so. Just sayin...

Yeah my dad has a weatherby vanguard in 300 weatherby and he enjoys it. Im sure you will too.

Ok. For those of you who say that it is a glorified 22 magnum, it is not. The bullets are pushing 2000 fps from a pistol barrel while the 22 magnum only reaches 1300 fps. The performance of the fn 5.7 round is simply explosive. Look up some threads and you will know what I mean

I think I'd buy a mosin and spend the rest on ammo.
