    Considering 357 Lever Action

The problem with a 357 lever rifle is that it's a real chick magnet. Every single female I've ever taken shooting has gravitated to it. If you have a girl-friend or wife and they shoot it, it will get appropriated and you'll never get to shoot it again. You'll need to get two.

cleaning around furnace and water heaters....

I use Ed's Red, which may contain up to 25% acetone, which could be of concern. I was cleaning the oil out of bullet casting molds by scrubbing with acetone (pure acetone, not Ed's Red), and then flaming it to dryness. I was decanting some acetone from a 1 gallon metal can (1" metal screwcap)...

    AR that Accepts AK Magazines?

This has been my experience. Any random handload I've created for the 7.62X39 beats factory Wolf or SilverBear loads by at least 2" at 100 yards.

Why pistol cartridges in a rifle?

The real reason is because they're chick magnets! Every single female I've ever taken target shooting, wants to claim my Marlin 1984 as their own. They can shoot 38 specials, see targets fall down, and fulfill their cowgirl fantasies. Almost all don't want to shoot magnum loads in it. Seems...

45 acp 200 gr PB SWC load with W 231

My favorate is Lyman's 200grain SWC 452460 cast in #2 alloy. I load that with 10.0 grains of Blue Dot. This load gets 2.0" groups at 25 yards.

    looking for a new 308

Just go to your local "mart" and pick up a Savage Axis in 308. On sale you might pick one up for 399$ Top it with a 100$ 3X9 scope and you'll be good to go.

Thinking of loading up some 45 in lead

Have never shot anything else in my 45s. Get it done. I started with Lyman's 200 grain SWC. Was a chore to get it feed just right, but now it's flawless.

    Twilight hunting/scope

Quick question about these new illuminated crosshairs. Is the crosshair still viable if the battery goes dead, or does it disappear completely? My biggest beef with red dot sights is that I'm always replacing batteries. Is the scope useless if the battery goes dead?

Lead Melter for Boolits and Fishing Weights?

I'd go with the Lyman if you want quality, Lee if you're cheap. I've had both, and I threw my Lee pot in the garbage can. BTW, the lead alloy for making fishing weights is not going to be the same as the best alloy for making bullets. What's your source of lead? Raked berm lead bullets...

    Mineral Oil...question about

I keep some mineral oil in a plastic squeeze bottle in the garage for general purpose lubrication. I do use it on guns and think it would work fine for you. For me, it seems a little thick, and what I've done is mix it 50:50 with ATF. That doesn't seem to have a strong odor, and that might...

    Palmetto .308 AR10 - Crazy Great Prices

Actually, when you shop for an upper at RedXarms, they state "THIS UPPER IS DPMS COMPATABLE". When you shop for an upper at Hardenedarms, they state "Fits DPMS style lower receivers". When you shop at MidwayUSA, it's "DPMS LR-308". You can be right about the SR-25 pattern, but that's not what...

    6.5 Grendel users

I built mine with a 24" bull barrel j&tdistributing kit. Out of the box accurracy while sighting it in with Hornady 123gr A-max was 0.81" . Sadly, J&T has stopped selling them recently. Apparently there are some cycling issues they told me. I'm in the market for another kit, a...

Optimum 6.5 x 55 twist for available bullets

Hello Chris A big part of the appeal of the 6.5X55 is the fact that it was available in inexpensive (back then) military surplus firearms. I myself have two, in model 96 Mausers that I bought back when they were 80$. I've reloaded for it and have carried them in the field hunting. That being...

    Bullet Casting Help?

I like Lyman's 429421 bullet for 44 magnum. It's a plain base bullet that I cast in Lyman alloy #2, which works well even in my Marlin .44 magnum rifle. Before you get started, I think I'd suggest seriously investigating how much lead you can actually accomulate before actually investing in...

    Lever Gun in 357 Magnum

Sorry to tell you, but you will never get to shoot it. I have a Marlin in .357, and it's a chick magnet. All the girls I've ever taken shooting have appropriated it for themselves. Your wife/girlfriend/significant other will feel like a cowgirl and won't give it up. If you're really nice...
