Thanks for all the great information. I feel better "informed" now. After looking very closely at the existing blue finish on my rifle I don't think it needs re-blueing afterall. However, it does need a new recessed crown.

I would like the finish on the metal to look really good - deep blue. Is this "hot blueing"?

There is a gunsmith near me who has over 20 years of experience. He would charge me $200 to completely reblue the metal and cut a new recessed crown on my 1973 Remington model 700 ADL .308 (wood stock). Is this a good deal? Itemized: $150 for the blueing and $50 for the recessed crown.

New formula The new spray cans at Wally World say they have some new synthetic formula that won't harm ANY gun wood, plastic, paint, etc.

Any experience with this aerosol spray product? Is this stuff good to just spray into the action for a good thorough cleaning? I might just try it.

I've got a S&W model 60 2" in .357 mag, five shot. I simply put it in my pocket! :) Simple, powerful, lightweight, reliable, and accurate.

As good as Marlin lever guns are I just can't believe that they would allow the screw issues to persist. Perhaps they should use the same kind of screws that S&W uses - the ones with springs in them to help keep them tight.

New screw on the way... I just got off the phone with Marlin. They are shipping out a new lever screw. I hope the new screw will solve this problem.

I haven't noticed my carrier screw coming loose but my lever screw has come loose. Is this something I should take up with Marlin?
